In a short, no. The Tripmate used Rockwell binary (I think it was), and will
only work with DeLorme products. I highly suggest you get a newer GPS. They
are way more accurate, much, much faster to acquire a signal, and most are
NMEA compliant so they can be used with almost any mapping software. I
highly recommend the SA2006 package with the LT-20.

I have a Delorme EarthMate and use MS Streets and Trips. Works beautifully,
but a USB -> COM port utility has to be downloaded from
microsoft.com/streets, (No voice prompts though.)

I have a different question, now that this has been answered.
Setup: At some point I want to have the DeLorme Earthmate>PostPro setup,
but
right now I just want an Earthmate receiver. The problem is that I haven't
been able to find just the receiver(BT) and setup software. Everywhere
that
I look wants me to have some sort of mapping program that I really don't
want!
I just want to get a BT Earthmate GPS to output signal for my Palm. The
only
software that I want is the config software. I've tried googling
'Earthmate
"no software"' and many other vartiations with no luck. Dan? Anybody?

You don't need any other software if you don't want it, but at the same
time, you don't need the BT Blue Logger (not Earthmate) if your not going to
take advantage of it's internal logging. You can output the GPS data to a
txt file using the Blue Manager software that comes with the Blue Logger,
then you could feed that into some other program. You can do your GPS
logging on the HH, but that takes away one of the main advantages of the
Blue Logger (BL), in that you don't have to have your Palm powered on all
the time to do logging, eating its battery (and BT will, believe me;>). You
let the BL do the logging, and then just turn your Palm on when you need to
confirm where you are. As the BL will already have a fix, when you fire up
the handheld app, the fix will be instant.
If all you want is a Bluetooth GPS, there are lots that will work with the
handheld app as long as it's NMEA compliant, which almost all are now days.
However, if your going to do that, get the new SIRF III chipset, from all
I've heard it's really great. I'm sure the next version of the BL or
Earthmate (LT-?) will be using it or the next great chipset. |

Dan,
Thanks for the info. I'm just about convinced, but have just a couple more
questions.
Where can I find the BT BL without bundled software? I searched on the
DeLorme site and froogle, but had no luck.
Do I understand the downloadable help file correctly that I can set the BL
to log at 'walking speed only, every 5 meters' or something similar?
50,000 points, right?
Anyway, thanks again, and I appreciate the help.

Try eBay, that's probably your best bet. That said, I still think your
making a mistake getting it without software, because there is so much more
you can do with it. Anyway, they have free shipping thru the 20th if you
decide to go new. I do not recommend getting it with "just" the handheld
software, as the desktop that comes with it doesn't have the draw tab, which
means you can't download your GPS tracks into a draw layer (to display on
the map) and you can't play the logs back or get any info on it.
They added a really slick GPS log file info that shows you all kinds of info
about the log.
Start time
Acquisition time
Finish time
Distance
Average speed
Maximum speed
Average elevation
Minimum elevation
Maximum elevation
Average GPS status
Number of the times the GPS fix was lost
Number of readings that were obtained
Acquisition street
Acquisition location
Finish street
Finish location
Acquisition coordinate
Finish coordinate
Time from start to finish
Time for acquisition
Time from initial acquisition to finish
File owner
File comments
File path
File size
Your best bet would be SA2006. You can always get it later if you decide to.

Right.....
This should help, it has screenshots of the settings you can use.
