I know a lot of you are smarter than I am when it comes to hookups. I don't
know if you need al,the information I have below or not so I'll include it
anyway.

I have a new (summer 2004) Philips 27" TV

DirecTV Digital Satellite Receiver Model HBH-SA

Emerson DVD Player with Video Cassette Recorder Model EWD2203

and I just bought a ILO DVD Recorder & Player Model DVDR05-MU

I need to know how to hook all these up so I can not only record TV programs
on DVD, but to be able to copy VCR tapes onto DVDs.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Do you route these through an entertainment center?

try this

receiver to emerson
emerson to ILO
ILO to tv.
That should get you started.
