if I have a single lnb dish and want to wire it up for a dual tuner
would a multiswitch work with just 1 input for the dual tuner? or Do I
need a dual lnb minimum?

You need a dual lnb.

Did he mean his dish only has one LNB (like all 18' dishes), or a single
output LNB?

Haven't seen "single LNBs" in years.
