Nextel sucks and only a fool would rely on it. I had Nextel and it had very
little coverage. Not a good phone to take on a long hike.

Nextel has a place but it isn't out in the middle of nowhere! Having
used Nextel in the San Diego area for years I learned not to rely on
it once you get even slightly off the beaten path. Heading east from
SD once you crossed the Laguna Mtns summit and headed for the desert
you might as well just turn it off.
Nextel concentrates along Interstate corridors and metro areas. Why a
company like Trimble would decide to hook up with them for a venture
like this is beyond me. |

The GPS inside the Nextel phones is easily used via firmware,
even when not anywhere near a Nextel cell tower -
This GPS functionality is not "currently" available
with the phones from other carriers. |

Why not just buy a GPS? Then you would have something that works. It would
be stupid to have a nextel phone only for the GPS. Get real. Nextel is
worthless for any use.
