Need Honest GPS Reviews |
|
|
Hey-
I'm working on a web site dedicated to user reviews of products,
including GPS units. I think the web site will benefit people looking
to purchase new GPS units cause they can get honest opinions. If you
have a second to post your opinion or review of any handheld type GPS
units... post it here...
http://www.ereviewz.com/brandpage.php?brand=GPS
Note... I WILL be advertising on the site and I want to make that clear
up front so people don't think I am trying to rip them off some how.
Like I said... when purchasing online... its nice to read honest
reviews instead of fake reviews posted on most sales sites.
Also... if you know of any good GPS products that should be on the
site... let me know... the list is pretty slim right now.
Thanks |

Try a Google search. I'm sure you'll find as many reviews as you can use -
both from individuals and from various writer groups and magazines. |

that's a good idea... but since I am advertising on my site I would
like to avoid 'scraping' content from other peoples sites as much as
possible. I guess I don't really know the legal implications. |

Or better still at something like epinions.com where they reward
contributors rather than leech off them.

So you want people to write content for your site so you can make
money out of it? What a hero.

Don't be such a prat!
In no way was this spam - it is perfectly on-topic for this news group, was
a single polite posting which is totally relevant to our routine discusions
and I haven't noticed multiple postings to other newsgroups - even where it
would also be relevant. The OP was honest and up-front in telling us that
he will be be advertising on the website so that if you feel that it is
immoral for him to benefit in any way from any material then you need not
contribute anything. However everyone else will have the benefit of posted
review material and it may help to cut down on the pointless repetitions of
questions such as "what do people think of model xyz" and provide a useful
reposititory for comparitive user opinions.

.... come on... I'm not trying to rip anybody off... Just looking for
useful content for my web site. GPS is something I'm interested in so
I added it to my web site. Wouldn't you find it useful if you were
thinking of buying a Garmin to read other people's opinion/experience
with it? And, yes... in return for providing this info... I'll
advertiese on my site. Believe me... I probably won't make $10 in a
year of the advertising which leaves me WAY in the red for yearly
hosting costs.. I went through this exact discussion some time ago
when I started a similar "review" type site for microphones (another
thing I'm interested in because I play music). See the discussion that
resulted from that here if you want...
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.audio.pro/browse_thread/thread/43fc49e66cf8905a/677dede8f4deeaa9?q=microphone-review.com&
some people agreed with you and others didn't find my posts quite so
offensive... personally... I find user review sites to be the most
useful out there... If you think about it ... Google groups can be a
searchable review site for millions of things.... and it advertises
right over there on the right side of the page.... why are you posting
here if you don't want to help google out? Why aren't you calling
google a "hero"? |

I would say your site is almost completely geared for Garmin
devices/software. Might as well said so in the beginning.
Also as long as you state the link to some web-source and give details
re source location, I do not think you are in any legal trouble as
these source are open anyway. Good luck re your site.

Best quote "An annonymous review is no better than a random grafitti
in a public restroom. ". That about sums it up. You need to understand
the reviewer as well as the review to be able to make a judgment, and
sites like epinions.com lets you do that.

Google are the only provider for a comprehensive Usenet archive.
People use it because it is useful and Google don't ask for people to
do their work for them.

Good point. The last thing you need is a lawsuit. However, I imagine many of
the widely published opinions will be willing to let you use them if only
you ask in advance. |

Completely untrue. Unless the copyright owner has expressly granted
permission, published works such as reviews, images etc may not be
reproduced elsewhere. If you start ripping off reviews you're likely to
find yourself in very hot water very quickly.

thanks Darren... thats what I figured. Also... I added a ton of gps
units from other companies so my site wasn't so Garmin heavy... feel
free to add some reviews if you have experience with any of these
units! Here's the link for the GPS reviews...
