Or maybe just a hockey fan?

Tough luck. Another OLN game bites the dust and,
apparently, no word on:

nhl.com
dishnetwork.com

and on olntv.com, this (the irony of the
statement aside, there is no rebuttal on Dish's
site):

OLN Statement Regarding DISH Network

http://www.olntv.com/nw/article/view/3434/?tf=NHLArticleWrapper.tpl

We were surprised and disappointed that DISH
unilaterally chose to stop providing OLN to its
customers without warning, and denied fans
access to great sports coverage. Fortunately,
those customers do have the ability to explore
other cable and satellite options that carry OLN.

Get OLN
Click here for how you can get OLN.

---

Hey, it's only hockey, right? So, Dish
completely pulls OLN from its package, leaving
151 without even a message. So, I suppose this
is final, and will extend into the playoffs.

Congratulations, NHL. If it were being run by
people out to destroy it, they couldn't do a
better job.

Of course, for us 12 or so U.S. hockey fans
(left), this is Season No. 2 of being SOL.

Unless Dish decides to drop OLN altogether.

OLN says:

Yet, according to Dish, it was OLN that
unilaterally chose to stop providing the NHL to
Dish's customers without warning, (denying fans
access to "great sports coverage").

Apparently, Dish values their few NHL fans so
lightly that they don't even deem it necessary
to explain this withdrawal of network hockey to
its 11.4 million subscribers.

There was a slide on the screen of this channel for several days. And,
anybody who has an interest in hockey and has been awake the last few weeks
knows what is going on.

Nah - don't blame the NHL, blame Dish. OLN set a policy that a provider had to have OLN on a
tier/package received by 40% of the provider's customers. Dish didn't do that. So Dish wasn't able
to carry the NHL games. Comcast in NY fell under the same restrictions, changed where OLN was, and
now they get the OLN games. Dish decided to play hardball and pulled OLN.

OLN's games have been available on DirecTV from day one. And unlike ESPN, OLN treats the NHL like
it actually wants to cover the games.

Alan,

Get a clue. Dish still has a contract to carry OLN, with all of its
programing. OLN decided to with hold the NHL games from ANY provider
that didn't carry OLN in a tier with at least 40 percent of that
providers subscribers, remember this is AFTER the FACT and should be
immaterial with regards to the current contract. Dish called OLN on this
by threatening to terminate carrying OLN if they didn't cease and desist
from this practice.

OLN freaks, sends a management to Denver on the spot to work this out.
Comcast managers parrot their demands with no compromise, Dish
terminates OLN.

Seems ridiculous and illegal of Comcast to change the terms of an
existing contract without permission from each party in that contract.

I stand by any provider standing up to the these vertically integrated
companies that write and rewrite the rules costing subs more money as
well as those subs losing channels.

I have an interest in hockey, yet I haven't a clue as to what's going
on. I know the genesis, but not the current status:

Is OLN off Dish forever? If not, why not leave up the channel holder?
Are Dish and OLN talking? What are the prospects of seeing network
hockey this season?

TIA,

Thom

Yes, but OLN didn't black out the channel, they only didn't provide the NHL games. They provided
alternate programming. OLN isn't compromising because some are reporting they want to use the NHL
package as a way to gain greater carriage so they can move into the 'bigs' to challenge ESPN. While
I understand that strategy, I'm not so sure the NHL is the package to use to make that stand.

I can't speak to the legality of the deal, but if it were that black and white, I'm sure Dish would
have been able to get an injunction like you or I can get a pack of gum. I think if OLN had just
cut off all programming during that period, that's probably what would have happened. I wonder if
OLN is providing the NHL stuff as an additional service - if you meet the 40%, you can have it,
otherwise you can't.

I wonder how much it would really 'cost' Dish to move OLN to a lower tier.

Nothing. It would be passed on to subscribers.Which is why-along with the
legal issue-I support Dish.

Well I don't support this decision. It couldn't have come at a worse
time. The PBR Finals are less than 2 weeks away and now I will not be
able to watch them-- and yes, I like to watch bull riding-- it's just a
thing of mine. I am considering switching over to another provider
ASAP (one that carries OLN) just so I can watch the finals. It's a
hugely watched sport and now all these people won't be able to get a
chance to see the finals-- this really sucks.

Look here for the only satellite provider to carry OLN in a minimum package.

Note the Free DirecTV DVR (after instant rebate) offer.

This is awesome-- thanks so much. I also heard though that Cablevision
is picking up OLN-- I definitely want to switch now, but don't know
which one to switch to. All I know is... I want my OLN (sang to the
tune of Money for Nothing)
