Spoke too soon, ITV2 is still encrypted; all the ITV1s are free though.
ITV1,2,3,4 and News are now all FTA.
is ITV4 actually on air? hell I have missed a launch.

Two reasons for this, so I'm reliably informed..
Channel receives its network feed from Meridian's analogue Rowridge feed
(via a fibre optic connection from Bournemouth). Secondly, apparently
Ofcom rules are that ITV-1 regions only have to be 16:9 via DTT, not D-Sat.
There is no DTT service on Jersey owing to lack of frequencies and the
French being awkward, so via D-Sat they follow Meridian analogue, 4:3 of
14:9 within 4:3. Poor effort really but Channel are so tiny the extra kit
to go 16:9 would be very expensive for them.

Sorry, thought you were using a dodgybox. I see you have the answer
already, so I won't repeat it :-) |

That explains it then. I like to look at the Channel Islands news now and
again because it reminds me of my holidays in Guernsey. I think my
reminiscences will survive the inconvenience of 14:9 in 4:3. |
