Well, this explains the quality of DirecTV support personnel. Perhaps
you should look for a job in the food service industry where your lack of
skill won't be as obvious.

LOL.

Q. Sir, does this product contain peanuts or other traces of nuts?
A. No. it does not. I do this for a living and I am confident it does not.

As I do this for a living I am completely confident as to my previous
statement. The DirecTV TiVO makes a call every day @ 2 am for it's
updates. Regular software programs do come in from the satellite, but
without a phone line- it will stop functioning.

Can I use DirecTV TiVO in my motorhome. While it would not be connected to
a phone line all of the time I could connect it every now and then to
receive any updates.

Don

Certainly.

Yes, it can. Are you using a dual lnb in your motorhome? Is it an
auto-pointer dish?

I'll overlook the childish attempt at flaming.
Ten years in this field and I run into a (lousy) comedian when trying to help someone.
Grow up.

None of which changes the fact that you were wrong.

Yes to both. Does that make a difference?

As I do DBS for a living too, but probably have a higher position, I am
confident that the DTivos don't need a phoneline other than for the
initial call and downloading showcases. How do I know this? I do it
myself. There's a nag screen, which can be disabled, but without a
phoneline you have full functionality.

Probably at a higher position... which means you are not out in the field, you sit at a desk. Probably why you are trying to compare the R10 to a Philips.

No, I am right. You cannot convince me otherwise. We are talking apples and oranges, look at the original statement.

This statement is plain wrong. Incontrovertible.

I'll second that as a long time DTivo user. That statement is just plain
wrong. hard69rock - better get your facts straight. Try putting one of
these devices in yourself and see what happens.

I have the Vonage logs to prove that it does not make a call everyday at
2:00. I also have unplugged for extended periods of time. There is a nag
screen, but the unit is not disabled. I think there was once a time that
the unit would be disabled if it didn't make a call for 30 days, but that is
no longer true.

There are folks on the TiVO forum at

<http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/> that have 600+ days since
their last call for their DTiVO. Now a Standalone may need to make
the daily phone call.
