DVB encrypiton |
|
|
Regarding Satellite Encryption...
In the video encryption column of Lyngsat.com the various encryptions
are noted and indicate the need for some kind of subscription/smartcard....
Is that true of DVB encryption also?
Example = Satellite OPTUS B1; 12365H Seven Central; DVB.....
I mean, it doesnt indicate [F] (free to air) and yet - they are ALL
digital Video Broadcasts (DVB), so without further encryption - could I
receive these sorts of channels?

The jargon and acronyms can be confusing...DVB is often referred to as
encryption but I think it is actually compression...something like
winzip for TV broadcasts, then the encrytpion comes when you add a
user password or key for stuff like Irdeto, Conax, Nagra..etc |

WTF????
DVB is NOT a form of compression, it is a digital broadcast standard for
video just like GSM is a standard for mobile telephony.
DVB can use various forms of compression such as MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VC-1 etc.
Go see http://www.dvb.org/ for more info. |

Ok then it goes:
DVB = the standard
mpeg# etc = compression
nagra, conax etc = encryption
sorry, I am guilty of adding to the confusion.
What do I need to connect my new PCI card to an existing receiver feed
from two single lnb's, coupled at the dish through a switch?
you never know what you don't know
