programming Ku satellites on Uniden Supra |
|
|
The user manual states:
Menu
7 installation
password 3573
1 program a satellite
this gives the list of pre programmed C band satellites
press c/ku button to see list of preprogrammed ku band satellites (DOES
NOT WORK)
does not change to ku satellite list
the c/ku button does work outside of the menu and changes to ku with a
channel number on screen.
What do I do?
How do I get the list of pre-programmed Ku band satellites? |

I'm new to Ku on the Supra too.
Before you hit the MENU key you have to be in Ku mode.
then you go through the same sequence to program a new
satellite. Once you get the satellite programmed, you can
then use the FAV key in the normal way. However you have
to be in the Ku mode before doing any programming.
I find the Ku mode very user UNfriendly, as most Ku transponders
cannot be programmed due to the fact that you can only
tune the channel frequency + or - 15 Mhz, and sometimes you need
to go much further than this. I have yet to find a way to program
the BASE or default frequency of each Ku channel. All they let
you do is pick another channel close to the frequency of the
channel you want, then move the "fine tuning" to put it on
frequency (ONLY if it's within 15 mhz will this work), then you
have to go back into the install menu and manually change the
Ku channel number from what it was to what you would like it to
match. This tuning method is what engineers call a KLUDGE, it works
but only marginally or takes an act of Congress to implement.
So far, I found that more than 50% of the Ku channels cannot be
programmed at all as they are more than 15 Mhz away from the
desired channel frequency.
I must be doing something wrong. I WAS able to program channels
14 and 19 on AMC-9, but it's like pulling hens teeth to get this thing
programmed. The Pansat 2500A allows you to punch in the
individual transponder frequency, you can edit each individual
transponder and set it to any valid frequency, C-band or Ku Band.
If anyone knows an easy way to program the Supra for KU please
let us know.
Is there a better analog receiver out there that is user friendly
for Ku? There doesn't seem to be very much NTSC stuff up there
that is not scrambled, but so far have found feeds on AMC-9.
Let me know if you have any success in programming T-8 on
AMC-9. The closest I can get the tuning is 5 mhz off frequency.

Yes there is. An old knob tuned analog receiver. I have a VP-1000
slaved in and it just can't be beat by anything.
Can't tell you where to find one though. I wonder if Lee from Mechtech
is still around?? |

The Chapparal Monterey series are pretty good at locating
and tuning both KU and C band. |

You must set the receiver to both C & Ku Lnb setup before the Ku sats will
show in the menus. |

I would like to ask simple question.
Are there any users that have contemplated a neighboorhood Cable system
for their community.
IF so I would appreciate any information you have gleaned from your
experience.
Our neighborhood associations pays over $86,000 dollars a year to
Comcast for basic cable with no premium channels.
Out neighboor hood consist of approx 750 homes in a 5 mile square
area.
I am exporing the possability of approaching the association for a
proposal to put our own system in similiar to the Satellite systems you
see in a hotel or bar that sells payperview events.
Thanks for any input you may have.
Respectfully yours,
Troy L. Scott

VideoPlus.
There are a few others I can't remember. Others have posted about a
Pansat version and there are some real simple receivers with remote
controls.
I can't believe no one has posted a good substitute.

You guys get basic cable and line/system maintenance for $9.55 a
month. I doubt you will beat that with an inhouse headend. |

Good morning.
Yep, ol' Lee is still around, sucking air in and blowing it out again.
Still stock the used VideoPlus VP1000 units and new old stock Bensat
DR-903MX. I don't have any pictures of the VideoPlus, but the Bensat is
described here. http://smallear.com/R903/index.htm Prices are $39.95 and
$129.95, respectively, including splitter to slave it to your big dish
system. Shipping on either via UPS Ground to any 48 state address is $9.95.
Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and PayPal are all accepted, as are checks or
money orders.

| I just bought a VP1000 from Lee / Mech Tech. Works great. I slaved it to my 80cm Ku dish/fortec Ultra. A little tricky using the Ultra as a master... I have to do a tp scan on either a low or high LO freq tp/polarity, then tune/watch with the VP1000. There's still a lot of stuff lurking on ku analog. |
