Call Retention at 800-600-8977

Jack, have you called that number recently? DTV disconnected it due to
abuse and people posting it on the internet.

Directv did how ever start mailing out cards with a 'special customer
service' phone number on them. No idea about the criteria for getting
one but so far they seem fairly limited. No one has posted the
number, yet.

You DO GET BETTER DEALS from Retention. But if you don't ask you don't
get.

Way to abuse the system Jack! Not everyone has account status like
yours. I'm guessing you've been with DTV for a while. Not everyone has.
Not everyone pays their bills on time. Retention only gives good offers
to good customers. A lot of people call retention for technical support.
DTV is starting to lock down and audit retention because of abuse and
because of pushover agents who'll give you the farm. Don't take this as
an insult. You are getting a good dead, and it is legit, but in the
future don't expect such grand discounts.

Strange, when ever a company shill tells me that, it turns out to be
false.

Being Directv customers for 5-6 years, paying around $80 per month, is
it possible to get Directv to give us a deal on this new dish and
antenna in exchange to contact with some programming (we don't have a
contract) Maybe we can trade in one of the old boxes for the new HDTV
one?

Here's the offer. Existing customers upgrading to the H20 receiver and
5 lnb dish are offered the receiver, dish, and installation for $99.

You won't get if you don't ask them. Call and ask for retention. Then
report back.

Calling into retention for everything is not always a good idea. You get
worse support and inaccurate information. If you want the upgrade,
either ask for technical tier 1 or CIS.

Nope, better deals from Retention.

Nope, sorry.

If I call a company and ask for something...anything...and they agree to
it, it's their own fault if they don't like the terms they gave out.

I agree that many people do call up DirecTV's "customer retention" and
threaten to cancel with no plan on cancelling if they don't get something.
So, DirecTV can start calling the bluff of these people from now on, but
they can't renege on promises already made.

It's called negotiation, not abuse. I do it all the time in my job, and
often in my every day life. Simply trying to get the best deal that you can
for yourself. You do it when you buy a car. Is it abuse if you get a car
for $1500 cheaper than the guy down the street did? Or, do you just pay
sticker price and be happy you did?

Would it be abuse by Directv if I paid full price for the stuff when I could
have negotiated a deal?

Reports at TiVo Community and AVS Forum are that you can get a credit for
that $99, too, so that total outlay ends up at nothing.

Heard the H20 is slow with menus and stuff...
