ExpertGPS Question - Renaming Route Waypoints - Help! |
|
|
Hello:
Just bought ExpertGPS, and having problems creating routes using the
"draw route" tool on the topo map display. Hoping someone on this
newsgroup can help.
Most times I do this, the route waypoints get generic names "RP0001,
RP0002, etc.", rather than names keyed off of the ID I have entered for
the route. This is a problem becuase if you want to create and
download multiple routes to your receiver, you'll have duplicate
waypoint names.
Occasionally the route waypoints DO take the route ID, but I haven't
been able to isolate what I am doing differently when it works. It
only ever seems to work wne I am testing to try and get it to work, not
when I am drawing out a real route.
It's so frustrating!!!
I also haven't figured out if there is a way to go back after the route
has been created, change the ID, and have that new ID cause all of the
route waypoints to be renamed using the new route ID.
Has anyone experienced this problem or know what I am doing wrong? I
have searched the newsgroups and the ExpertGPS manual for solutions and
come up dry. I really like ExpertGPS, but this is a real showstopper
of a problem. Likely something stupid that I am doing wrong.
Thanks for the help!!!

The software author occasionally posts to the forums at groundspeak under
the nick "topografix".

I tend to create routes with Mapsource so can't help you even though I have
Expertgps.

Figured it out - as I suspected, me being stupid. I was choosing route
IDs that were too long, so when the software tried to add the index to
the end of them (e.g. WYPT01, WYPT02..) there was no room for the "01"
or "02" - so the system went back to its system of using "RP"!!
As long as I use ID short enough to accomodat e the size index the
system will need, I'm all good!
Hope this helps someone else..
