I don't care for the 60s on 6 BS either. Early on, I bitched about it
on some of these threads, but found that far more people replying to my
posts LIKED it than didn't like it. I actually emailed XM's
programming people about it back in early '02, and their response was,
"Sorry, but the point of the decades channels is provide the sense of
the era they relate to".

Music choice sucks pretty bad. No selection, no depth. And the DJs on
the XM non-decades channels I find to be well-informed and unannoying.
For example, on Deeptracks and on the classical channels, these people
really contribute to the programming. It is a worthwhile tradeoff for
me; I can tolerate a certain amount of DJ chatter (and XM's is quite
limited) in exchange for the playlist depth they deliver.

XM is chronically bashed (by the TOP40 crowd) for its musical
diversity. Simply put, you are not going to find more diverse
offerings on the public airwaves.

One realy gets the sense you haven't even listened to it, because your
remarks are totally inconsistent with having done so.

I was never dissing XM. Beats commercial radio all to hell.
It was directed at those lamenting the loss of the Muzak channels on DTV.

If you want a RADIO service with DJs and BS jingles and top 6
countdowns and assholes calling in on the phone, then XM is great.
Maybe thats good for the car....

At home, I want a MUSIC service ...NO TALKING....no BS jingles .. just
music.

If I want to know the name of the group.... I look at the TV. And I
don't need to be reminded every 5 minutes that the 60's are on 6, thank
you very much....

I'm glad I can still get MUSIC choice via cable.

I can see why it may be a good buisness move for XM and for DTV, but
from my perspective, it sucks.

Maybe they'll figure out they can save money without jingles and DJs.

I think XM has a lot of possibilities, but just the fact that they spent
money to bring in lame drive-time djs is beyond my taste level.
Snoop is humorous for about 5 minutes.

Well, you have to keep in mind that their biggest demo *IS* people out
driving about during the day, and they do need to deliver what those
people will listen to. If you can handle 5 mins of Snoop you have me
beaten....

The good thing is that there is so much to choose from you can always
find something worth listening to. I have about 20 channels I
frequent, but most often Bluesville, Deeptracks, Classics, The Loft,
Top Tracks, Comedy Channel, X-Country, Opie&Anthony, Fox News, Hear
Music, The Village, and even Classic Soul on occasion. I really find
times that the traditional country channel is really good, as well.
In general, the big problem is there is just too much good stuff to
listen to.

Just barely.

Yes, but the choice is what's important. I enjoy too many genres of
music to stay locked to any one thing.

Ever the cheerleader, Frontmed Davey can't stop spewing propaganda. The
Music Choice Blues Channel is great, much better than Sirius or XM. The
Americana Channel is very good too. It is programmed by people who know
the genre and you don't have to listen to goofballs like Web Wilder,
Jesse Scott or Mojo Nixon. Miami Steve (Little Steven) has a great
garage band channel, but he doesn't know much about outlaw country..

The Music Choice AAA (Adult Album Alternative) is also very good. There
is no equivalent on XM. Sirius Spectrum is pretty good but Carol Miller
is hard to take in the morning.

The Loft XM 50 has two categories of music: (a) the overplayed, (b) the
unknown. If you want to hear music you have never heard of, and will
probably never hear again, this channel is for you.

Deep Tracks XM 40 is still mostly deep tracks from 1968-1974. Every
once in a while they leave this time period but not often. It's an
oldies station. They also have alot of clunkers, songs that would be
better forgotten. Frequently they play alot of clunkers in a row. On
their list of 5005 songs at least 10% are truly awful. Somebody needs
to get a grip. The jocks also have a strange approach, some combination
of smug (for no apparent reason) and condescending.

No matter how bad you think XM is, Frontmed Davey will tell you it's
because you have a Top 40 mentality, even when you are complaining that
XM doesn't play real blues but white boy hippie blues. I want to hear
Willie Dixon, Howling Wolf and Muddy Waters rather than Maria Muldar,
Susan Tedeski, or Eric Clapton .

XM's blues channel SELDOM plays any Clapton or Muldaur. Yes, they play
Tedeschi, but she *IS*, after all, one of the few contemporary blues
artists getting significant coverage.

You know shit about about this subject. XM's blues channel is loaded
with everyone from Bessie Smith to Buddy Guy and Freddie King. It is
clear that you have not spent significant time listening to this
channel. I may have to meet you at the crossroads and whip your ass.

I checked all 70-80 channels last night (11-16). As near as I could
tell, not a single one of the "on screen" IDs of performers and songs
matched the actual music being played.

I watched for several songs, just to make sure the XM Radio thing
wasn't somehow reporting "last song" or "next song."

This system is broken. I expect a refund of part of my package fees.

I heard someone else saying the titles weren't matching up.

Good luck on getting back part of your fees. LOL.
