This latest price increase has convinced me to dump this rip-off company.
When I initially signed on the basics were only 8.95, now they are 3x the
price! While almost every other digital appliance/service has come down in
price, Bell just continues to skyrocket. What are we really getting anyways,
CBC, CTV in 4-5 time zones and the networks. Starchoice is not an option
since they charge for extra receivers. Can you spell monopoly? My local
cable supplies the same for $17/month and I can even watch one channel while
recording another.

Yeah definitely... Personally, I'm scheduling my disconnection for
December 31st, which is the day prior to when the price increase takes
effect.

I wish I could be so lucky, no cable anywhere I live (apt in Industrial
suburb, and house in country).

No choice but sat, I'll have to look into SC or maybe even DN.

What also pisses me off is getting RDS, pay extra per month to essencially
get 1 watchable channel, and even then half of its programming isn't worth
it. But they have the rights to broadcast all the Canadians hockey games. Am
I going to pay $5 or $8/month just for Canadians hockey, I think not.
Getting the early bird price for NHL Center Ice would probably be a better
bet.

I really dontblame anyone for dumping Express Vu. Last night I was just
scrolling the IPG to see what was on at around 1000pm and yuk ! nothing
worth even looking at. So many channels of nothingness!!!
Glad it's my wifes choice and not mine.
That's why I prefer either Dishnet or direct TV.
Thank God for American TV !!!

Agreeed! My BEV will get dumped for cable at Christmas
time.

Funny thouygh. Even being a "protected customer" from
the pay increases they gave them to me anyway and my
cost went down as they stopped charging for an extra
receiver.

They had their chance. Their service is crap, their
programming is crap,Their advertising is horrible and
repetitive, their audio is terrible, and their video
breaks up when any high pixel change action is present.

Raise the price...go fuck yourself.

American TV forever. The movie stations on DTV have no
commercials. PPV isn't even required to watch good TV

Exactly! Go get yourself a FTA receiver like a Fortec Star Lifetime
Ultra and ad in the necessary ad-ons from the Al7bar.tk forum and don't
waste your money on all this crap.

Exactly! I would blissfully pay $90 a month Canadian (w/ my credit card
and a fake U.S mailing address) for everything short of U.S. paytv (no
HBO/Cinemax, Showtime/TMC, Starz/Encore) and STILL feel like I'm getting
value. Value that ISN'T found on Canadian programming found on
Rogers/Shaw, Bell ExpressVu/Star Choice!

In Bell's defence, I don't think they are responsible for the programming
they have available to them to pass on to their viewers. They are a network
provider and content deliverer Also, the increasing price increases my be
due to underlying increases they have to pay to their program providers.
Expressvu is far from being a cash cow for Bell from what I read.

They do own CTV and TSN, but other than that , they have to negotiate with
the various channel providers who are licensed by the CRTC. They do want to
create the appearance of value and generate revenues,by offering a lot of
channels, many of which turn out to be a complete waste of time. But do they
really have a choice in this, when this practice was already in place
throughout the industry and in Ontario at least was started by Rogers? The
Canadian Content and licensing restrictions, mean they can not just offer
anything that is available in the US.

In regards to signal and quality, I find it to be excellent. Dishnet uses
the same technology (Echo Star) as Bell, so how could Bell's picture and
sound be different.

In terms of prices, I am coming off a 2 year contract in December (Ultimate
7). To renew with pretty much the same programming will cost me about $10
more. This is an average of slightly under 5% a year which is a bit high
these days, but not outrageous. I just purchased a 9200 receiver, which
comes in a kit with: a satellite upgrade kit, including dish and LNBF, IR
and UHF remotes, composite video cables, sound cables, HDM/DVI cables and
SW44 multi switch. The only cable I had to buy was an optical sound cable
which gives far superior audio quality and 5..1 sound. At $600, I think it
is an excellent price. As to customer service, I have had occasion to call
them a few times for assistance recently shortly after the 9200 was
installed. I found I got through with little delay, and the people I talked
to were able to resolve my problems quickly. I know Bell in genreal has a
reputation, which has been well earned in recent years, for lousy customer
service. In think they are finally aware of this and seem to be improving
things if ever so gradually. One of the big problem I find are the Bell
World stores. These are franchises and are not owned by Bell. Frequently
their staff are untrained or poorly trained and can botch things up quite
badly. I don't know what Bell plans to do about this, but I think this may
be one of their big problems.

Finally, I won't argue that Dishnet and likely DirecTV have better
programming than Canadian suppliers. However since I live in Canada, I will
continue to support our businesses who provide employment and taxes for our
country as well as Canadian content.
