The thing is, that the service is satellite RADIO, not satellite
music. It was *never* meant to replace the CD player or iPod.

On the music channels, you have announcers throwing in a bit of
chatter now and then. They'll do stuff like lead in with some
history or interesting story about the song or artist they're
going to play.

A lot of the stations have their own and 'fillers'. For example,
when you listen to the 70's channel on Sirius it's really a 70's
channel with the 70's style 'jingles'. I prefer this to the
sterile perfectly spaced songs you hear on an iPod.

Not only that, but there is way more than just 'music'. They also
have News, Comedy, Children's programming, Sports (Talk and game
broadcasts) and a bunch of other 'entertainment' style channels..
You even hear the odd live concert..

It's not just 'music' :-)

Both Sirius and XM stream their programming and you can 'try them out'
on their websites. You should sign up for a free demo and see what
you're missing.

Keep in mind that someone out there must have, at one time, recorded a
Stern show. Have that person email that show to you... it will be
exactly like every other show he has done every day, just with a
different girls name! No need to subscribe to anything---just play the
Stern MP3 over and over and over, like he does every morning.

with a pretty extensive collection of mps and a good mp3 player (some can
handle up to 30000 song on hd) you can have all the musiq you like, and with
the random feature on those device, you will never hear the same song all the
time...

there are even ways of having random songs but of just a few chosen
styles..and you can put many type of styles to a single song...

lets say in the ghetto from Elvis ,can be tagged as ,Elvis,ballad,70's

now if you do something like that you will have your own xm radio service
inside your car, wont have to pay a service fee,and if there are some song
that you really like from local people ,not known to the great American
people, well you will be able to listen to those song too...

now I know I was steering the pot... with my 2 liner..

cause you asked for it..when stating that xm radio or Sirius would be such a
great thing..when in fact its only a damn way for by corporation to control
what you listen to...

I for one cant wait for the receivers to go on sale, and I will gladly
pay the $15 a month to subscribe.
I commute nearly 2 1/2 hours a day round trip, and I take routes that
take me from near Guelph to Hamilton, so traffic reports every 5 minutes
about the 401 or Don Valley parkway or Islington and Bloor don't really
interest me.
I wake up to 680News, so I already know what happened while I was
sleeping, and don't need a recap every 30 minutes.
I have never been influenced by the commercials I hear, not having
purchased Sleep Country Matresses, AlarmForce Home Security Systems and
do not suffer from mental depression that I need to listen to former
loser heroin skanks whine about wrong coices they made in life but how
CAMH helped them.
I just want to listen to music, uninterrupted, for the nice leisurly
drive through the Halton Hills while go to and from work.
Satellite Radio is my salvation. Pop the unit in, tune to all jazz, and
thats it...no irritating DJ's talking about shit I don't care about, no
commercials, no traffic, weather and news updates, just music.
If it only lasts a year, which I doubt, it will be one year of bliss.

Some of you negative nellies who piss on everything because, well, thats
the type of fuckturds you are, seem to forget that there are more people
outside Toronto and Ottawa.

There are millions and millions of people who live in places that do not
have access to the CN Tower, and can't pick up terrestial radio other
than maybe one or two FM stations that play songs none of us have ever
heard of. It's these same people who purchased ExpressVU and StarChoice
systems to get TV that wasn't available in their rural areas.
Now these same people will purchase satellite radio for their cars and
home, to listen to jazz, rock, classical and other music, NOT AVAILABLE
OUTSIDE TORONTO!! Get it??

Just once in your lives, take your head out of your ass and imagine how
someone else lives and thinks, and maybe you'll see that not only are
there other points of view, but that not everyone thinks in such a small
and limited scope.

from what I can read, your hooked up on it..

on my side, while I am on the mood for blues I don't want to hear any wannabe
dj telling me stuff I already know about such and such,so radio is for me
more annoying then pleasant ..and when I want to hear news...am radio is the
place to listen, free and all the news you want...

of course the sound is not so great, but this will be local news, not news
coming from one single feed, and for national news only.

I am on the road about 6 hour a day,I have connected my laptop(witch is a
helping me with mapping and gps too) on my car audio system,I watch some DVD
or downloaded film during my lunch hour, if I am not wardriving..

all this and I don't have to pay for a monthly fee,of course I did had to
pay for the laptop..but I had to anyway for my job..(tax deductible too!)

So xm radio,Sirius are not what I call an interesting service for me..

Not everyone like you doesn't have a life and downloads 30000 songs or
rips 30000 songs. And not everyone likes to listen to 30000 old shitty
songs without having a clue of what music is being made today because
you're so focused on listening to your oldies shit. And not everyone
like you doesn't listen to news radio that's actually worth something,
on the go.

Not everyone is like you.

The lack of something is a positive?
So if you were on the fence about buying into it, and then found out that
they WEREN'T going to have Stern, that might actually sway you?

Personally, the lack of Stern is a semi-positive thing for me -- I don't
intend to listen to him...

However, I'd be willing to pay exactly what I pay for Shaw's digital
music (which is both mtrax and galaxie): $1.99/month. I don't really
need portability, I just want digital music in my house.

If the programming is substantially better, I'll look into it, but
otherwise, why bother?

I feel so bad....I feel I want to cry....

LOL hopefully not every one is like me....

but as I can see you have a pretty big tendency to think that once something
is done ,like a playlist, it cant be modified...

live in the 21st century man...you can HAD song to your collection..and I do
listen to commercial radio from time to time..
for a few reason..traffic report, news(if not really important news are
happening) and for new music

I honestly prefer having a DeeJay program my entertainment for me.
I would get stuff I never hear, or not care to hear if I had to buy the CD
or online track of it.

I am not mobile, so a mobile audio service is not in my cards right now.
If I were, I'd be getting one.

I am not. I don't have many CDs (but lots of cassettes and LPs I could
encode). an couldn't be bothered making playlists and things.

I honestly prefer having a DeeJay program my entertainment for me.
I would get stuff I never hear, or not care to hear if I had to buy the CD
or online track of it.

I am not mobile, so a mobile audio service is not in my cards right now.
If I were, I'd be getting one.

Canadian Sirius is not going to be allowed to broadcast Howard Stern like
the American Sirius is..

The CRTC controls Satellite and Cable in Canada, unlike the US where the
FCC leaves pay services alone, and has said that Howard is indecent.. (yet
they allow hardcore pornography, and gay pornography...)

Howard is the main draw of Sirius over XM here in the US.

XM, which is taking a back seat to Sirius here in the US, will put on a
full-out assault on Canada to win the market. I predict the Canadian Sirius
eventually goes down in flames...

Being a Sirius customer, I can agree that many of the dj's are lame,
especially the night guy on Alt Nation-21, he's just a punk that takes
advantage of the fact that he can swear on the radio and plays the same bits
over and over for weeks, but Kayla (afternoons) on Octane-20 rocks.. The
guys on the Jam-On station barely make the cut but the tunes are awesome,
same with the Vault. And, I LOVE the lack of commercials.
