I wonder if anyone can point me to the format of the .ov2 files as used with
TomTom POI files please?

I'm trying to convert a number of locations to .ov2 format but I not
succeeding to find the file format information.

I'm not looking for a program to actual do it, what I am after is the actual
format of the data so I can write my own converter.

Hopefully someone can put me in the right direction. Even a URL to a site
which has the information will be ok.

I should have also written - look at the section on the input format for
one of the POI tools (MAKEOV2)

I suggest that you email Mr Davies, who wrote the POI Converter program - at
gpsutilities-software@yahoo.co.uk

He should know!

As a different question but still related to Tom Tom (I'm have TT5) is
there any way that I can extract my favorites from the *.cfg file in one
map folder and merge them with the favorites in the *.cfg file in other
map folders?

I've looked at that *.cfg file and it appears to not be an ascii text
file, is there an editor that I can use that will let me edit favorites
into other *.cfg files?

Thanks for any help,

Jack

Why re-invent the wheel? POI-Converter will create an OV2 file from a .csv
file of Lat/Lon locations?

Not an answer to your question but if you saved your favourite locations as
a Custom POI (.ov2) then you would have a 'MyPOI.ov2 file in the map folder
that could be backed up, copied and moved to other map folders with ease.

They're in the 'poi.dat' file (in an 'unknown' format).

Thanks, I'll look into doing that.

I just recently started reading about the *.ov2 files. When I looked at
my install (on a CF card for an iPAQ 3765) I did not find any .ov2 files
in any of the folders on the card so I don't know where the POI I'm
seeing now are coming from.

I downloaded a .ov2 file of ZIP codes and that worked, I guess the POI
included with the software are in another folder.

POI Converter will convert OS grid references in an Excel file into a .ov2
file if you wish.

Read the help file carefully concerning sheet naming and column headings.
You have to get these right for it to work.

Many thanks. At long last a proper reply to the original question.

Yes, the programs reported will convert file formats, but I've been watching
this thread, so that I can add the .ov2 format to my Psion EPOC app.

The .ov2 format looks like a very cut down version of the original .ovl
format.
