R-Rated Sex Scenes Phoney as a $3 Bill |

Its a waste of bandwidth for the premium services to present motion
pictures containing sex scenes as they are now edited. Simple nudity would
be okay, but the simulated intercourse scenes manditory these days in
steamy "R" movies are ludicrous. They weaken the movies, without
exception. It is especially true when some movies incorporate repeated
such scenes ad nauseum. A good example is Showtime's running of "Vinyl
Dolls."
While teens might be titilated the first few times they see these movies
(if they haven't already when pre-teen), they, too, have to be turned off
after a few such views. The idea of people "making love" with their
clothes on and highly censored shots to avoid frontal and close-up shots of
sexual organs in action is rather distasteful. Even children by the age of
ten know how the sex act is really done and I hardly think there is reason
to cover it up, so to speak, in any movie which asserts to portray such
action.
Therefore, I assert that sex scenes belong properly only in XXX movies,
where they are done realistically. (?) Alternatively, relax the criteria
for an R-rating and bring realism to the screen. |
