I installed a new feedhorn. It mounts on three struts connected to
the outer rim of the dish. There is quite a bit of play. Should I
adjust the feedhorn location for best picture, or is there a way to
properly align it?
Thanks,
Wayne Morrow

By hand; for the best picture is the optimal way, given that your dish
is not likely to be perfect.

Secure scalar ring to struts with whatever hardware is required to eliminate
play. Lockwashers or nylon washers can help. If the strut connection area is
hollow, fill with solder or hot glue to minimize compression which
contributes to wobbly installs. Adjust to center the feed, a laser level can
be a big help here. Once centered, loosen allen set screws on scalar ring
and adjust the body of the feed for proper focal length and best picture.
If you have any play at all, you'll be readjusting alignment every few
weeks.
