XM channels have been "on" for less than a week, so they are not the cause of
"degraded"
picture quality in the last few weeks. What has changed in the last few
weeks?

11 days is less than a week?

I've been enjoying the XM channels so much it seemed like less than a week.
Time flies when you're having fun. Eleven days is less than two weeks,
which is less than a few weeks. . : )

BTW, DirecTV bandwidth has not been "max'd out" for a long time.
Premium package sports channels will use a varying amount of bandwidth.

DirecTV might not have added enough new channels to use the bandwidth occupied
by the last groups of local channels carried on the national beam before moving
them to the 119 Deg W. Long orbit position.

http://www.dbsforums.com/dbs/DTV101.htm

The chart at the above link shows the channel/transponders allocation in
February 2004. Count the number of local market channels listed.
Those local channels are now gone from the 101 Deg W. Long orbit position satellites.
Also, note the number of channels sharing transponder 8 in the right hand
column. One of those is a High Definition channel.
You can also see the transponder assignments for the old Music Choice channels.

It will be educational to compare that with XM.

Look here: http://www.widemovies.com/dtvtransponders.html

It appears that no more than 4 XM channels are delivered by any one transponder.
Five XM channels are from the 119 Deg. W Long orbit position satellite.

The author of the chart is apparently in the Dallas local market since spot beam
transponders 12 and 20 for Dallas are shown.
