Rebroadcast DVR program to other receivers ?? |
|
|
I have two DVRs with my Dish system, as well as one regular DVR-less
receiver. I'd like to be able to play something from one of the DVRs,
and watch it via the basic receiver in another part of the house.
When the satellite guy installed the second DVR, he made an offhand
comment suggesting this would be possible, but I'm clueless how to do
it. Seems like it had something to do with installing a splitter
between the DVR to TV and sending the signal to the TV as well as back
up to the LNB. From here, the "rebroadcast" signal from the DVR looks
just like a regular satellite feed to all of the receivers in the
house. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance. |

Well, I have DirecTV, not Dish, but I have a setup similar to what you
describe. I have a DirecTivo in the den and another one in the master
Bedroom. I've routed an "extra" coax from the RF output of each Tivo
to the RF input of the other TV set, so I can watch a program recorded
on the BR Tivo in the Den, or from the den Tivo in the BR. A couple of
IR extenders makes this work with the Tivo's IR remotes. (This means I
have 4 coax leads to each room, 2 for the dual tuner Tivo from the
Satellite Switch, one from the output of the Tivo, and one to the
input of the TV set.)

For about $37, shipping included, you can buy a transmitter that will
transmit from anything that has a line output (motorola plugs for video /
audio L & R) to as many TV's as you can fit into about a 500' range! It
transmits on preselectable channels 14 through 41 that you tune into on
your TV. No special receiver required. You can even transmit to your
neighbors (you WILL transmit to your neighbors, so careful what you're
watching, right?). Check out item # 5741028804 on eBay! I'm ordering one
for myself!

I forgot! You do not want to try "broadcasting" from your LNBF! It
doesn't work that way. It's receive only! It requires 13-18V from your
receiver to power the LNBF, so you have voltage on the coax all the time
(on some units, even when off). Playing around with different connections
you could inadvertently put 18V to your TV tuner, or short your DBS/DSS
receiver, with unpredictable results. The transmitter is a much simpler
solution!
