I'm dicing a bit on this one. Ready to purchase once I decide.

Right now, the 2610 is $550, the c330 $500.

The 2610 has more user settable features...and I use those sometimes.
But it doesn't have my old favorites (from the Quest): no altitude and
no ability to set the lat/lon as one item in the trip page.

The 330 has 3-D, 2610 doesn't. Might like to try that....

You can only set one via point with the 330. Can you set waypoints?

The bottmo line is this: I take a cross country trip from CA to OK
twice a year. I take *lots* of little side routes off the interstate.
Old route 66, through towns, side roads to features, etc. But it
seems I'd have to make a lot of Point A to Point B sets on the PC then
transfer those to the 330? With the 2610, I'd just click the route
from CA to OK, add via points, and have *one* route to follow. Same
thing for the way back to CA.

So I'm thinking that since I'd like to customize the routes to that
degree, I really don't have a choice--2610. Or could I do the same
thing on the PC and just transfer that to the c330? If so, I think
I'd choose the 330 even though it 's less customizable....

It does have altitiude in one of the menu settings (satellites?) but I agree
it would be nicer if one could put altitude and lat/lon on the trip page.
I would even prefer that over address as I can always look at signs for
those.

The frustrating thing is, Garmin seems to be moving to a "Moron UI."
That is, removing all the customizable features or limiting them,
eliminating via points and routing that involves more than "take me to
Point X," and there isn't much of a choice.

The new 2720 seems to have fewer options than the 2610. And there's
nothing out there that appeals to someone like me who likes to plan
routes *beforehand* for longer trips with sideroutes, smaller roads,
vias, etc. In fact the big move seems to be to have maps preinstalled
so you can't even plan ahead on the PC.

The Quest has many more customizable features than the 2xxx series.
That's crazy. If it had a larger screen with touchscreen, that would
be a no brainer choice.

Oh well--I guess I'll have to decide between two Bozo machines. The
devices that allow you to make your own choices and aren't dumbed-down
are all 2x more money than the 2610 or c330....

The altitude or any of a bunch of different settings can be displayed on the
2610 screen via the custom tabs set-up option, I have altitude, time of day,
speed, next street on my tabs all the time. There are 2 sets of custom tabs,
the normal screen and the routing screen.

There are folks who don't realize that the 2610 has 'custom' tabs in
addition to the pre-defined 'wide', 'narrow' and 'compact' settings, since
the 'custom' option never appears until you create one [from 'menu' 'custom
setup' while the tabs setup page is active -- in case someone else out
there hasn't found it yet....]

If Elevation and Lat/Lon can be set for the map page and/or the Trip
page, then I'm one of those people who don't know (and that's why this
forum is good stuff). I downloaded and read the Garmin manual. The
options shown for the Tabs on the Map page and the options shown for
the various Trip page settings *do not* indicate that Elevation or
Lat/Lon can be set for either.

I guess it's gonna come down to the 2610. I went to a big box store
and played around with the c330 and the 2720. The 2720 won hands down
for appearance of the screen, look of the maps, and customization
features. I can't see an extra ~$200 for the 2720 over the 2610--just
to get a slightly better screen, 3D, and builtin maps.

BTW, I believe in patronizing local merchants. But the 2720 was
$1,025 + tax locally. Online, it's ~$750. When it's a $250 price
differential, it's an easy choice.

I don't know about lat/lon [it's out in my car], but elevation is one of
the fields that can be enabled. The choices are still no where near as
'user selectable' as, say, my old III+, but I can live with the offerings.
