For all owners/users of the Garmin Nuvi.

A software update has been released for 300 and 350.

The software update does give the 300 the 'text to speech' function that
Garmin and others assured me it didn't and would never have!

I have installed the update and it appears to work fine.

Update available from www.garmin.com

I'm thinking of getting the Nuvi 300 for use in the UK. Can you comment
on the quality of the mapping and whether the speaker is loud enough to
hear comfortably in a car?

Hi Rob

Nuvi 300 is fantastic. Good sized quality touch screen display. Easy to
navigate around the units options etc. Mapping is brilliant. The mapping
is the lastest V8 unlile the C310, 320 etc that ships with V7 I think. The
speaker quality is fine. A great improvement on the quest I was using
before and the mount is brilliant and easy to use and adjust. Speaker
quality is fine for in car use and can be used. The unit is text to speech
despite what garmin tell us consumers! The lastest software update sorts
all the confusion out! The unit can be loaded with POI such as the
pocketgps safety camera database which is a bonus. You can access a
satellite status page and a trip computer plus loads of other stuff.
Mapping can be viewed in various mode such as 3D or 2D etc. The Nuvi has
loads of other features such as mp3 player, audiobook player, calculator etc
etc. All these extra features don't mean they have sacrificed the quality
of the gps unit as a gps unit! - far from it. I'm well impressed. If I can
help you any further then feel free to contact me.

Rumour has it you'll soon be able to attach the garmin gtm10-fm traffic unit
to the 300 for live traffic info etc - bonus!

Regards, Tim
