I currently have a Garmin V. I am looking to upgradae and notice that
some of the Gamin products ship with City Select and some with
Navigator. I am in an urban area. Which is better? The accuracy of
the mapping is as important as the features of the unit.

The Garmin 5 is probably better matched with City Select. Cinty Navagator

and Select use the same maps, City Navigator is designed to be used with the
higher end GPS Car Navigators and add some enhancements and bigger segement
size - in fact the CN 7 uses smuch larger segments and you would not be
happy.

My *impression* is that the maps are the same, but the screen msgs of CS
are shorter and more appropriate for G-V, 60C, etc.

Right! Forgot about that. With V. 7, CN has very large segment sizes.

In his post in alt.satellite.gps.garmin, the OP indicated he was
planning to buy a new GPS receiver. That wasn't clear from the wording
posted in this group. I think you interpreted his intention as being
to use the maps on his GPS V, in which case your advice would have been
spot on. However, if he is buying a new unit, he would probably be
best off to buy the maps that Garmin recommends for that unit. I
believe he is trying to determine whether the difference in maps should
be an important factor in deciding which unit to buy.

Rich,

I answered your post in alt.satellite.gps.garmin. It would be better
if you would learn to cross-post, rather than posting identical
messages multiple times in different groups.

I am looking to purchase a new receiver. I will probably keep the
Garmin V for off-road "bread-crumbs" feature and well as portability.
But I do want to get a new unit for use in the car and noticed that
some of the new products are preloaded with City Select and other with
Navigator. Sounds like if I'm comfortable with the cost, the
Navigaror-loaded units are the better maps. Thinking of waiting to see
what the 2730 is like when it comes out. Does anyone know what cities
XM is transmitting digital traffic info for?

Rich,

I answered your post in alt.satellite.gps.garmin. It would be better
if you would learn to cross-post, rather than posting identical
messages multiple times in different groups.

Sorry

Don't feel bad. That group is new to me! And I will go subscribe to it.

Sorry

No need to apologize. I intended only to inform, not to condemn. I
should have said that in my previous post, but I was in a hurry. If
you need any info about cross-posting, feel free to shoot me an email.
My email address works.
