I am listening to BBC Radio 3 on my old Philips On Digital DTR6370 DTT
box,
as my FM tuner blew up and the quality of DAB is very poor compared to
either FM or DTT. The UK DTT system has dozens of radio stations. Were
it
not for that, I would probably listen on satellite - but I would need some
cabling and a second receiver to do that.
I'm curently listening to radio 3 via satellite, where the quality
exceeds that I used to get on my Quad tuner in the UK with a loft
antenna. UK DTT does not have any planned coverage :)
Currently using a LIDL SL65 with the optical output which provides
electrical isolation between the receiver and the HiFi & computer.
Get one next time they come around, there are more channels on
satellite than DTT.

I do use my satellite set for all sorts of radio - the dish is motorised -
but is not connected in my study. DTT in Scotland is good for radio. I'll
be in Barcelona for Christmas, so I will be out shopping.

It also says 'Receptor de radio incluido.'
I haven't found any radio channels with my UK freeview
box, nor have I found any DAB broadcasts, so if there is
anything there this may be the set to get it.
RNE 1, 2 and 3 are on the same MUX as TVE 1 & 2 (at least, they are
here on the CB). Picking them up fine with my Grundig DTR 2420.

I'll have to look more carefully, I assumed as they did not show up
on the search trhey were not there, OTOH as its all new and under
test, maybe they are not. The main muc with the national channels
is stable, and there are two more that show test cards and channels
that last a day. The question is are we in for encryption or have the
powers that be decided after Queiro the Spanish equivalent of the
UK subscription disaster, its all going to be FTA.
Do the TDT boxes around have any sign of a slot or cam facility?

The three things to know about LIDL, are the product is good,
its sold all over Europe much the same, and its there for a week
and gone.
Best check the co.uk site for availability nearer home. The
attraction of the SL65 is that its cheap and well featured. The
SL55 and SL65 are the only sets here with optical out which is
good for earth isolation on audio.
I only discovered the chain after a discussion about here and
then they conveniently opened one across the border. I liked
the SL55 enough to start a discussion board about it
http://sat.connect.gi
Which is still rambling on.

Thanks - a new Lidl opened 3 km away in Musselburgh a couple of months ago.
An SL65 is on my shopping list. I bought all my satellite stuff in French
supermarkets and DIY stores. |

The digital satellite transmissions are the best quality available,
better than the terrestrial digital ones, better than FM transmissions,
and FAR better than the low spec DAB transmissions.
However, only the FM transmissions work well when driving round in the
car :-)

Tell you what Nigel, we have here BBC radio 3 via FM on FM tuners by
REVOX, Audiolab, and Denon and Sky off a conventional digibox, as well
as a terrestrial DTV receiver, and a Manhattan RX for Satellite
broadcasts from Europe such stations as France Musique and Bayern
Klassik 4 etc and by and large the terrestrial VHF/FM beats the UK
domestic offerings hands down!.
The higher bit rate offerings from abroad are very good especially the
signal to noise ratio, but there is something "not quite right" about
the audio quality especially in quieter passages. Pity but MPEG
compression can be heard working;!....
FWIW the Quad tuner wasn't all that hot perhaps you ought to try
something else like the excellent Denon TU 260 perhaps but if your FM
reception isn't that wonderful to start with..

Well, that was thirty years ago, and its still working. The problem
was the area I was in at the time was a bit marginal despite a
yagi in the loft and passing cars were not well suppressed.
Currently FM is jam packed with Spanish stations.

None that I've seen, not even the special ones sold for the Spanish
market (Seimens Gigaset) by Carrefour (which my spellcheck wants to
change to "cancerous" - how astute of it <g>.).

Okey-dokely; I'll nip in and see if there's any left - although I
gather the electricla place behind Continente (ahem) in Los Barrios is
knocking them out at around the same price, and El Corte Ingles have
them for 59 euros too. Don't know about the warranty, though. They've
got a nice little antenna for 32 euros, to boot.

Yeah, I saw that too, I think you had better get one from
there as at that price with a three year warranty its hard to
beat and will be the correct unit for the market.
I'll be over for a few, providing the pikeys have not
preceded me with a barrow ...

No, its a much larger establishment selling goods rather than
services. These days its also called carrefour. I thought the
nearest was Algeciras.

Well no, (says he in complete innocence;) it's what the Carrefour

- I know it not :-) |
