I have NPS and can see them as normal.

YSP hasn't cut them off as of 12/3.

Didn't get the obnoxious message until today (don't think I watched
yesterday...), but yeah looks like YSP is more or less blocking them
now. (Picture, but no sound, and obnoxious message over most of the
picture.)

Guess I'll call their number and request that refund. Ha ha ha...

(NPS says they won't take a "new" subscription for them at this time.)

Haven't checked since this morning. Actually for what we were paying for
the D5, you could get a FTA receiver and get many more network feeds.

Now if I can just convince the wife that by getting an additional piece of
equipment, I'd be saving money...........

BTW, I have so much electonics that I use the nick gizm0_man on irc.

I have a FTA receiver... probably should hook it up and see what comes
in nowadays.

Only problem is that either I never managed to get Ku band working with
it. I suspect that the box is just broken wrt Ku band. C band works
fine both with and without it, but Ku band only works without it.

Unless maybe you want to have a Free Dish, if this offer still exists.

I know that they're pushing dishnetwork. However, how does that compare

directv? I've noted that dish claims to have more HD channels (having
picked
up a few survivors from "voom"), but how's the quality of service? Who is
better?

I know nothing here...but DirecTV is coming out with MPEG IV now. Last I
knew, MPEG_II usage was brought to you by the Degraded Broadcast Services
[a.k.a. DBS]; both parties guilty. MPEG IV...wait-n-see...its suppose to be
better, but I've heard that before.

PS: I already have an HD mpeg2-dvb box, but not 4DTV. All my TVs are HD.
Local cable wants $130/month, while to get everything, $85/month +/- 3
with
both dish and directv.

Well, see what they are selling for on ebay...

They [Netlink] were adamant about the fact that the
DENVER Net will be gone. Netlink claims to own the
Denver Net and it will be gone no matter what NPS told me.

Years ago, TCI setup Denver 5, then it was sold "Murdoch,"
and Murdoch in essence forced a sale of it to Echostar.

So, Netlink [Turner Vision, SuperStar] is owned by Echostar.

So yes, Echostar can terminate analog Denver stations...
and most likely will in the near future.

But NPS agrees that they could be gone shortly,

When Echostar terminates the analog feeds, there is a good chance
we may have access to the digital feeds on HITS on W1

Do remember, Echostar stated back in Winter of 1999, C-Band would be
history within a year or two, when they made that contract deal
with Netlink. Netlink has put out "fear ads" over the years, and has
tried
to switch their previous and existing customers over to DISHNETWORK.

It's been dirty pool by Netlink/Echostar over the past five years,
imho. One
deception after another by Netlink/Echostar.

So, just wait-n-see....HITS may allow us to view these channels.

Have you also noticed that they claim that TNT, Sci-Fi, and STARZ (5 channels)
will be leaving VC-analog service too (12/31 supposedly), YET THEY STILL HAVE
THEM IN THEIR PACKAGES - like the annual package! They even have the departure
of STARZ (from analog) on their home page.... They do NOT issue refunds.

I know that they're pushing dishnetwork. However, how does that compare to

than your average rain drop...easier deflection).

Yes, rainfade will be an issue...it all depends upon dish size used and
bird's output.

Wildblue [www.wildblue.com] uses Ka band and via higher outputs on user/bird
sides can maintain broadband until heavy storms pass by...but users do loose
their broadband. Wildblue uses for the user a variable output TRIA, which
can pump out some 3 to 4 watts.

So, dish size and bird's output will be related to how much rainfade will
happen.

MPEG-4 is better only in the respect that it uses half the bandwidth of
MPEG-2.This is why DirecTV claims to be able to deliver HD locals
as soon as all 4 Spaceway satellites are launched.I am a little
apprehensive however with their choice of using the Ka-Band propagation
to deliver their signal.Ku-Band (which is currently used by DBS) is bad
enough insofar as "rain fade" signal loss goes.In my opinion,Ka-Band

Pretty sure I've tried just about everything, direct connects, the
various connectors (cable splitters, diseq, etc), various settings such
as the one you mentioned. Will be re-exploring further over the next
few weeks.

Though I did find this time around that the cable splitter seems to be
bad. Haven't found the time to retry Ku again, but wasn't finding much
on the C side this time around (just the old w b channels; the others I
found last time were gone). But I've not made it over to lyngsat again
either, for that matter.

Can sort of get a real noisy Denver NBC (OTA channel 9) though, same for
KBDI which never? was on the satellite (OTA channel 12). This with
rabbit ears. Guess that will suffice for weather/local news for the
time being.
