I have disk 500 system with 2 receivers ( that I own).

Can I purchase another receiver(ebay?) and change the block(
combiner/splitter) on the side of the house to one that has 3 outputs( the
one there now has 2 inputs & 2 outputs)..then call Dish & have them
authorize the 3rd receiver ?

You will have to buy a multiswitch and install by your dish, you then
can feed several runs to different sat boxes. At the tv you need a
diplexer to split the signal back out. The newest boxes you do not
need to diplex it back out. Also some newer boxes can feed 2 sets with
1 sat box, these usually come with 2 remotes and infrared and UHF
remote that can work through walls. You also can combine your rooftop
antenna into the multiswitchn then with the diplexer spilt behind the
tv to the sat box and the roof top antenna input. Use care when buying
a used sat box, call the serial number in before you pay for it, they
can have a bunch of PPV charged to them that will have to be paid
before they turn the box back on.
