Where is the switchbox? Did I get it or not? |
|
|
I had Directv around a few years ago. Due to circumstances beyond my
control, I had to move back to a place where satelitte tv doesn't come
in.
Since I thought that I might use it in the future again,if I ever move
again, and the old place was being torn down anyways, we had someone we
know take it down from the old place and bring it to my current place.
But while I was expecting him to bring both the dish and wiring and
anything that went with it, he actually brought back only the satellite
dish itself without any of the wiring.
The two LNBs are still on the dish. But is what everyone calls te
switchbox somewhere in the dish itself, or did I end up without the
switchbox needed to control the reciever?
The dish was very very very expensive which is why I wanted to keep it
instead of just leaving it, and besides, it would have just been
destroyed anyways if I left it at the old place as most peoples' homes
at the old place were being torn down in order to make room for new
higher-income homes.
If I don't have the switchbox, then is my dish no lo longer any good?
Or what can I do with it. Or is the switchbox still in there in the
dish somewhere? |

If you're talking about the multiswitch, no it's not mandatory to use
the service. Everything you absolutely need is there (dish, cabing, IRD)
If you've moved to a different location, you can pretty much get a new
install. Many people do it. Call in, say you've never had it before,
they won't link it to the account. If you don't want to do that call the
Mover's Connection department and they'll set you up with a new dish,
install, and if you push new receivers for a one year commitment.

You are probably referring to the multiswitch, a device that takes two
leads in from the Sat dish LNBs and provides 4 or more lines out to
DTV receivers or DTivos. My switch is installed in the attic, so given
the same demo situation, that's probably where yours was left. You can
buy another one. But I think you're overestimating the cost of that
dish and LNB. DTV's instructions for people moving now is simpy unplug
and take the receiver(s) with them, and when relocated, DTV will
install a new dish, multiswitch and wiring.... I don't know what they
charge, but it's probably waived if you agree to a year subscription ,
or something like that.
