Tomtom 500 freezing up !!!! literally

Postby **max_rebo** » Thu Dec 08, 2005 7:15 pm

Hi group
I am a new tom-tom owner as not even had it a week yet but the
night before last I left my tt in the van over night and when I came to use
it the next day it would not turn on, the strange thing is that night it did
get below -1c surely that got nothing to do with it, has it ? I left the tt
until before dinner and still nothing so I pressed the reset underneath and
hay presto were off again.

Can anybody through any light on this.

Ps I am not sure if when I put it in it's case it switched itself on and ran
the bats down as my case seems very tight ( it would have charged all
morning as it was in it's cradle and the green light was on )

Has this happened to anybody else?

You're joking, right? At one hand, batteries will lose their charge when
it's cold. On the other hand, LCD means liquid crystal display.

On the other hand TT Go is especially designed for car use so it should
be capable of working tin that environment.

happens to liquids when it's cold? Right. And on yet another hand,
leaving an item like a TomTom 500 (starting at ~$600 American) in your
car is just asking for it to appear on Ebay under "unwanted Christmas
present, threw the box away, but it's like new. Serial number fell off,
too".

LOL! You do realise that GPS Nav Systems are rapidly becoming THE No1 most
stolen item in theft from vehicles? All your local scumbag needs is to see
the mount stuck to the windscreen or the ring mark left by it and where do
you think he'll look once he's smashed your window?

They might be ground scraping low lifes but stupid they are not. Similarly
hiding it inder the front seats is similarly ineffective. If the vehicle is
left unattended take the GO with you.

The guy did not say the van was outside. I often leave my unit in my

motorhome. The motorhome is in a locked and alarmed garage though.
I think the clue is that it was in a bag and probably switched on.

Yes can we get back to the point. Has anyone left there TT on and the
batteries gone that flat that they had to press the reset once there was
some life back in the battery?? or should it have just switched back on
again??

Not a TT unit, but a PDA (with TT installed ;), yes.

Yep ... Tom Tom One ..... working fine in car, switched it off and
brought it into nice warm house.
5 hrs later decided to do some Advanced Planning in comfort.
Pressed "on" button ... Nothing !
Hoped battery was flat, so put it on the charger. Still zilch.
Went for the reset option .... on it came and indicating fully charged
battery and working normaly.
Looks as though I am going to have to keep something in the car to
reach the reset button from now on.
If it is going to make a habit of this it might need to go back to the
factory

You have a faulty unit.

It cannot be the TT software because so many experts on this newsgroup
say it works perfectly for them without any bugs.

Oh really. I'm using the software on my PDA, it's full of bugs, but
still the best navi software currently available. IMHO.

If you believe that you are running TomTom GO 500 software on you PDA then
your opinions have a great deal to be humble about.

If you don't know that TTN5 and the TomTom Go units are using the same
code base, I suggest you go look up the spec sheet.
