Yep ... Tom Tom One ..... working fine in car, switched it off and
brought it into nice warm house.
5 hrs later decided to do some Advanced Planning in comfort.
Pressed "on" button ... Nothing !
Hoped battery was flat, so put it on the charger. Still zilch.
Went for the reset option .... on it came and indicating fully charged
battery and working normaly.
Looks as though I am going to have to keep something in the car to
reach the reset button from now on.
If it is going to make a habit of this it might need to go back to the
factory
You have a faulty unit.
It cannot be the TT software because so many experts on this newsgroup say
it works perfectly for them without any bugs.

If you believe that you are running TomTom GO 500 software on you PDA
then your opinions have a great deal to be humble about.
If you don't know that TTN5 and the TomTom Go units are using the same
code base, I suggest you go look up the spec sheet.
|
1) If that was an attempt to change the subject, you failed.
2) The fact that the TomTom GO series all run with no known bugs suggests
that those you are experiencing with your PDA are not in any common code.
3) If you want to whinge about your problems running TomTom software on a
PDA, feel free but perhaps you would do so in a different thread and not
confuse someone who came here to ask about what the subject line shows.

And those who fail to accept the conclusion if it means that they have
to admit that TT flawed.

What is "TT" in the context of this thread? The OP asked about a problem
with his new TomTom GO 500. Do you know of any documented bugs whatever
in that model of all-in-one navigation equipment or in its software?

Now you can believe this or not but I have been around computers almost |
since the day I started work with the MOD in 1952.
At first computer programs were put into the machine by hard wiring. Then we
moved from patch cords to punched card and paper tapes. In those days the
phrase, "a bug in the program", meant that an insect had become wedged
between the blades of an electro-magnetic switch, or relay. From that day to
this I have never come across a program that did not have, "bugs", in the
modern sense of the phrase.
That's the name of the game, however, in the case of Sat/Nav systems there
are far more causes of problems than just the final unit's software.
Examples are maps that can never be up-to-date from their day of issue. The
hardware, firmware and software of the installed unit, same goes for the
transmitter of the signals. Then there are the usual problems of any
transmitted signal from the medium it travels through. Screening,
deflections and multi-path signals and a few other little variables too. Now
perhaps you may care to enlarge for us what part of the total system is
actually at fault? Oh! While you are at it you might like to consider the
little fact that many problems with all electronic systems stem from
operator errors?
