Garmin's service is FAR from what it used to be. Used to be you'd call
up and a very friendly and very knowledgeable guy would answer the
phone IMMEDIATELY, and he'd do everything that he could to please you.

Now you call and the wait time's about 45 minutes and then you might
get some grouchy guy who knows less about the problem than you do and
sounds like all he wants to do is hang up the phone (that's what
happened to me last time), or you might get one of the leftowver good
guys (that's what happened to me when I called right back). Or else
they just don't respond at all, like my emails about the crap POI's.

You

You are one of the numb nut dick weeds I'm talking about. I'm not the only

there units.

You know the man has no valid argument when all he can do is abuse people.

Abusing people only weakens your credibility.

I can tell you for a fact that Garmin's failure rate is but a tiny
percentage of units manufactured and better than most manufacturers. When
you manufacture as many products as Garmin, the apparent number of failures
looks large until you compare it with the number being produced. As for
doing a Google search, you'll find that most people only post here when they
have a problem because they're after advice, but they rarely post to say
they're unit is running perfectly. So the number of posts are not a balanced
report on the overall quality of a product. Just look at the number of
different products Gamin makes. In fact just look at the handheld range
alone - around 30 models currently in production.

Where did that come from? Fortunately for me, the law says my

contract is with the store and they *have* to exchange or refund.

Ain't that what the guy's angry about...I think...who knows...? He
doesn't present his case very well either.

I have to agree with you. I currently have six Garmin products in my
family and all have been very good. Customer service has also been
very good but does take more time on hold lately. But it is still far
above any other electronics company I have dealt with.

: Again, we now know which part you lost .. and with it your common sense
: and courtesy. Darrel's only mistake was doing business with you in the
: first place.
I sure hope you buy a unit from him and it shows up at your house dead as
hell. Then he tells you to send it to Garmin to let them fix it and they
take
3 1/2 weeks( not excluding shipping) to do it. when after buying a couple
thousand of dollars worth of stuff from him and all I did is ask him to
exchange it. I bet you would be pissing up a rope Mad to.

Did Garmin take 3 1/2 weeks to take care of your 2610? I find this very
hard to believe. Also if you felt screwed by us why did you do business
with us after you bought the 2610?

OK, how about some factual info.....We, as a "group favorite seller" (I
sure do like that title) keep purchase records with serial numbers, so after
Roger's (lostparts) very trashing posts I decided to do a little research
and was going to contact Garmin today with his serial number to see what the
facts were back when he got the unit and found that it was defective out of
the box. But before I got Garmin emailed, I had an email from Garmin (yes
they do read the newsgroups and also have great records) at 7:43am that said
"Darrel, just to let you know, this guys repair was done in September of
2003, we received it on the 22nd and shipped it back on the 25th and even
paid for his shipping of the unit to us." So then I asked what kind of
shipping Garmin paid for (both ways) and they said FedEx Next Day. Anyway
Roger got his unit on the 18th (Thurs.) and he shipped it to Garmin on the
19th (Fri.) and Garmin got it on the 22nd (Monday) and they shipped it back
to Roger on the 25th so he should have received it on the 26th (Fri.). Now
that's a long ways from 3 1/2 weeks by my calculation. To me that does not
fit the definition of being screwed but instead excellent customer service
with a very quick turn around to resolve an unfortunate situation. Again we
have no problem with replacing an out of box defective if we are able to. I
can only think of two reasons why we wouldn't be able to....one is if we
don't have any units in stock to do the replacement (which I'm 99% sure was
the reason we couldn't do the replacement in this case) or if Garmin
instructs us to have the customer send it to them. I know for sure they done
this with the iQue 3600 defectives when it was new. Thanks.

There should be a recommend feature on newsgroups.
Darrel, in the spirit of the season and all, you definitely got my
recommendations.
I'm not in the US but if I were I would love to do my purchases with
you!

As for Garmin I can only concur their customer commitment even in
Europe.

It's very odd to recommend a seller that you are not even in the position to
be able to do business with! I've no reason to believe that Darrel is
anything other than an honest trader but I certainly couldn't recommend him
(or anyone else) on the basis of such a lack of evidence!

Regarding Garmin - my experience is that there are some very helpul guys in
the European service department but I have extremely grave doubts about the
corporate commitment to the customer. Certainly comparisons between the way
that outstanding out-of-warranty support has been provided to me on phoning
Garmin Europe with the obstructive response reported by some other people
when the same issues have been raised with Garmin US tend to suggest that
it's the guys on the ground that make the difference and perhaps the further
they are from the scrutiny of head office the more helpful they can get away
with being! Certainly would explain why some folks say the Garmin service
rocks whilst others claim it's on the rocks!
