Medion 96800 |
|
|
Hi all,
I tried a friends Tom Tom on hol's to Scotland and thereafter purchased my
own Medion Sat Nav from Aldi, a keen seller in Germany.
Performance is of the 96800 is in keeping with the Tom Tom and at only
£219.99 is great value. Take a wrong street and within seconds it re routes
you. I have had 10 satellites pickups some of the time and 6 to 8 as a norm'
The mapping is very good with all street names and loads of POI's Only down
side is the lack of Caravan Club sites. But put in the post code and bingo
it take you to the door. Up grades for POI's are easily available on the net
and I am looking forward to getting them.
Cheers
John. |

I was looking at this device, but chickened out due to lack of
information.

There is loads of threads on those pages:

of
the handbook.

Latest model only sold through Aldi I believe.

I am new to Sat Nav but will try my best :-)
| Quote: | Does it distingush between different types of way points using image files
in the way TomTom does?
|
Yes
| Quote: | Can the voice be changed? I currently use mapopolis, but SWMBO hates the
voice. Would be fun if it can take different voice files.
|
I believe so using a poi upgrade from warner See:
http://www.navigating.de/Medion5_en/POI-PNA/Index.htm
| Quote: | Does it support audible warnings of POI's? i.e. Speed cameras.
|
Yes with the warner upgrade and one other web page see:
http://www.poihandler.com/
| Quote: | Can european maps be added, for how much?
|
Yes but you need to ask Medion how much and get a bigger sd/mmc card.
The 256mb is ok for England and all the main roads of Europe which come with
it, but if you want high map detail then a 512mb card is a must.
If you wish I will find the telephone number if it an't on the web page.
Hope this helps! It realy is a great unit.
No problem it's why we are here.
Cheers
