Advice on 2610 |
|
|
Any ideas on how to improve the grip of the bean bag mount?
Due to security concerns, there are some places I want no indication
of extra electronics visible when parked, even if I take the actual
unit with me. A glued on mount or putting a velcro strip on the
underside of the bean bag mount and the dashboard is not feasbable.
When parked in certain places, I want no incentive to break in.
For the first few months since purchasing the 2610, I only had a
problem when some idiot would break short forcing me to hit the breaks
hard. this would send the unit sliding into the windshield. To
protect the unit and the windshield, I did velcro some foam padding to
the back of the unit.
Now that the temperature has dropped, the whole unit and bean bag is
sliding forward on every break, no matter how gentle. On every turn
now the unit is sliding left and right on the dashboard. I had none
of this during the summer.
It's a little disconcerting coming out of a cloverleaf onto a major
highway and having your gps out of reachand view in the far corner of
the passenger side dashboard!
I thought the bean bag mount was designed to have enough weight and
friction coeficient to keep this from happening, regardless of the
temperature.
Any advice would be helpful.
Regards,
David

Using ArmorAll on your dash? Clean the area good with mild soap and water.
Any of the chemicals will cause it to be slippery. My bean bag doesn't move
at all. |

Go down to radio shack and buy one of there sticky plastic sheets and
place this under the bean bag mount.

Do you have the one with four pliable "feet"? |

Also, take a wet cloth and scrub the bottom of the bean bag mount
where the pad is. Let it dry. That will renew it's stickyness. |

I saw something like that at Office Depot a while back, too.

First, the 'cross-shaped' piece of metal inside the bean bag
should be contoured to the shape of your dashboard. Even if
you did that once, it may have become deformed from frequent
moves. I'd check that first.
Second, clean it well [not easy, as it isn't something I'd
attack with strong solvents] -- but at least remove all
visible dust from it as well as the dashboard.
Third, you might try something like this:
http://www.handstands.com/retail/automotive/stickypad.shtml
available from many tech dealers as well as auto supply shops
[I've seen them at most of the major chains from time to time]. |

I'm not familiar with the product from Radio Shack, but it might be
similar to that clingy soft rubber shelve liner material that comes on a
roll. A friend uses it under his mount, and says it works pretty good I've
seen rolls of it in dollar stores
|
Another set of stores that often has it are the ones that sell items for
home care (of handicapped etc.). |

It is a lot thicker than those rolls but they might work as well.
