When I wired the house wife and I just sold, I used CRIMP fittings,
with, of course, a tool to crimp the fitting to the RG6 wire

When the cable installer came to the rental (had to give up DirecTv
for a few months, can't get a signal @rental due to tall houses in
the way) he used COMPRESSION fittings and a different tool

He said "nobody" uses crimp fittings now, since the compression
fittings are water proof and "better" than what I used before

Is this true... or is he just saying what he uses is "better"
because that type is provided by his employer?

Compression fittings are better. But crimp connectors, put on properly and
water proofed where needed are just as good for your use.
