I have been poking around on all the usual groups and websites for
information on Pharos’ EZ Road Pocket GPS Navigator. There was an add
in USA Today this week for it.

Like the size and price, but can't find any real detailed information or
reviews on the unit.

Does anyone have one or seen a deatailed, unbiased review.

Thanks,

PTM

Thanks for the link to Google, but I had already searched and gotten the
same results - links to people that sell it with the same old sales and
marketing stuff.

I was asked if anyone had seen an UNBIASED review or if anyone has one.

I don't have any experience with the Pharos’ EZ Road Pocket GPS Navigator
and even if I did, I could not give an unbiased positive review.

I do have a Pharos Model No. iGPS-CF for my HP jornado pocket PC.

I absolutely hate the bloody thing. The licensing is a pain. Finding and
downloading maps to the PPC is a pain, support is poor requiring all kinds
of registration gymnastics. After the pain of setting it up, I used it only
a few times and then mostly with maps from Delorme or scanned raster maps
using Fugawi. Somewhere at sometime, everything went south. I half heartedly
tried to restore things but failed. I finally just gave up on it.

In summary, I would never buy anything with the Pharos name on it again.

Sorry for my ravings, I have to vent a little when I see the name Pharos.

Good luck with whatever you decide though. It may be a perfectly fine piece
of equipment. Make sure you check out the licensing and availability of
support.

My sincere best wishes to you

JGS

We haven't reviewed any Pharos packages but FWIW the PND software is the
same as the PocketPC version. The hardware is appearing in many guises,
Navman have the iCN510 and it is alos available as the Navigon Blue Media
and Medion PNA150 here in Europe. The hardware runs WinCE so is not
PocketPC and is effectively a dedicated GPS Device.

No worries on the "ravings". That is what I am looking for - people
with experience with the unit or the company. If the company
can't/won't support on product, chances are they will do the same with
other products.

I did too. The light-weight and layout of the map screen is what caught
my eye. However, very little information (other than from Pharos) is
available.

I am looking at the EZ Road too. It's fairly new and I can't find much
info on it. I am in the market for a pda/gps and am considering the
ique 3600. The M5 would be nice but I don't like windows. Not sure
what os EZ Road uses. If anyone has any facts on this unit, please
don't hesitate to post them.

Thanks,
RG

EZ Road uses WinCE but you can't get at the operating system anyway so
it doesn't really matter. It is a navigation only product.

Is there any way to load contact names and address to use as a
destination point?

Unlike standard WinCe this product does include a Calendar application
and a Contact list. You can use the contact list within the Navigation
software for origin or destination of a route. I do not know if the
contact list can interface with the PC.

Amazon.com has a buyer review of the SW and some optional services that
go with it. I agree, very hard to find info on it. This guy seemed
happy though...

(if this link doesn't work, just search for "pharos siemens" on Amazon)

I think it uses the same hardware as these units, but all the meat is
in the software and maps

Here's a review of the Pharos software vs. "copilot" in a PDA
application, there might be differences on the non-PDA EZroad but it
probably gives a good idea of the general feel of the software:
