Due to increased use of GPS as a timing receiver, the GOES time service will be
dropped on 1 Jan 2005.

In light of the other current discussion regarding the disabling of GPS in an
emergency, this is a service that should not be dropped, IMO. It is not as
accurate, but certainly provides a backup time signal. (OTOH, the WWVB service
provides a similar useful backup, but at a much coarser rate).
