I need some advice from the group. I have four DirecTV systems (3 RCA
425RH's and 1 Toshiba DST-3000 - high def). I had an installer come in
and align the satellite properly. When they did, everything worked well
and I got good signals on all receivers, except the DST-3000 was
getting 50-60% signal strength on 110 degree (Sat C). But didn't think
it was a major issue.

Right now though, I'm getting 0% - no signal at all for any transponder
for Sat C on the DST-3000. But here's the weird part. On the DST I get
92% signal for Sat B and 95% signal for Sat A. Also, on the other 3
receivers, I get 85-96% signal for all three Sat (A, B & C).

So, does this look like a cabling issue? I swapped ports on the switch
(between an RCA and the DST) and no change on the DST.

Thanks!

Kevin

There are 2 issues I know of. The DST-3000 is a Hughes E86 clone and they

are sensitive to overheating and to too strong Sat B signals knocking down
the Sat C signal. With the Phase III dish, a slight intentional misalignment
to reduce the Sat B signal can help. With the Phase II dish having an
external Sat B/C combiner, a 6db attenuator on the Sat B leg of the combiner
can help. The overload problem is expecially evident at the edges of the
coverage area, basically the coasts with the northeast being the worst. If
temporarily covering the Sat B LNB with aluminum foil brings back the Sat C
signals, you'll know that is at least part of the problem.

The box was designed without a fan in response to complaints about noise in
competing boxes of the time. It's heat dissipation ability is marginal which
leads to failure over time unless an auxiliary fan is added over the vent
holes to keep things a little cooler.
