this is just another reason that we should tell our legislators to stop
giving pbs our tax dollars. they are no longer a "public" service.

just my opinion!

The US military is publicly funded. The Federal Reserve belongs to the public.

Stop by your nearest Federal Reserve and pick up your portion of the gold so it cannot
be used to fund PBS. Also drive though the gate of the nearest military base, get out
your camera and take a few photos of your property.

The Federal Government is reducing their funding. This forced them into a situation in
which they had to find a distribution method that is more cost effective and
efficient. Congress approved the changeover. The changeover also will make it more
effective for PBS to comply with the FCC's digital only OTA mandate when it becomes
effective. If you are upset you should be upset at the legislators, not at PBS. Vote
your existing Congressman or Representative out office if you do not like what
happened. The government almost lead PBS by the nose into this situation.

100% of the military is funded by taxes and the federal government. The budget for the
military is astronomically larger than the funding for PBS. The public owns a far
larger hunk of the military than they do PBS. Last year a little less than 15% of
public broadcasting (which would include entities other than PBS) was funded by the
federal government. From now and into the future the federal funding for public
broadcasting will be even less.

PBS is still providing programming, it is sent to their affiliates. The satellites
feeds for PBS and almost everything up there on C-Band never was intended for home
users. It was a means to provide programming to their affiliates. PBS is still a
public service. It is still available to the people that are crying and complaining.
The new distribution method will also make their programming available to a larger
amount of the American public. The feeds that are lost were DCII feeds that were
available only to a small number of 4DTV owners and possibly a very much smaller
number of people with DCII commercial receivers.

The channels that were lost were on C-Band only channels. The Ku feeds are still alive
and well.

I am not happy that they disappeared either, but sometimes life sucks. The new
distribution method will allow PBS to be present in more households and will be more
cost effective. Some people's idea of the public is "Me, myself and I". Their vision
is to narrow to conceive that the public is much broader than their own little world.

Which is part of the point I am making. PBS is not part of the federal government and
it is not owned by the public.
