ABC 720 Perth encrypted on Optus C1? |
|
|
Does anyone know what has happened to ABC 720 Perth on Optus C1?
At about 8.20am WST the signal was encrypted. I thought it was a technical
problem, because the signal reverted to being broadcast in the clear after a
few minutes, but it was encrypted again and has remained so for the last
twelve hours.
Previously Foxtel subscribers in Regional WA were blocked from listening to
720 Perth for some strange reason, but the channel was available free-to-air
from the Optus C1 satellite using a non-Foxtel digital receiver.
All the other ABC Metro stations I can find are still broadcast in the
clear, including ABC 702 Sydney, ABC 612 Brisbane and ABC 774 Melbourne.
Only ABC 720 Perth seems to be encrypted.
Also, can any techies out there identify what sort of encryption has been
applied to 720?
Any help would be appreciated.

iredeto 2 (and 1 for a while longer)
Optus aurora package.
Blame Foxtel for all the havoc lately.
Also ABC tv all states shifted frequencies, suddenly becomes FTA but with no
bloody channel header so you're left guessing which state you are watching
out of a handful of "ABC" channels.
Was better when it was in the Aurora lineup, at least you knew what state
and timezone it was. Fucked it up for all the country Aurora viewers
bigtime.

Are you sure it's IRDETO? I have an IRDETO decoder and an activated AURORA
card for Western Australia, but I still get "E16 Service is currently
scrambled" for ABC 720.
Interestingly enough, when I press the "FAV" button on my Humax receiver it
reports "Foxtel 12366MHz(V) SR27800 3/4". Does this means Foxtel have
started encrypting 720 using whatever proprietary system they use?

Hi,
720 Perth should be on 12367...not 12366...presume you just mis-typed.
Foxtel also have some of their channels on this frequency (various SBS
channels), which are irdeto 2 and videoguard encrypted, but all the radio
channels plus ABC WA and the Christian channel are FTA

Hmm, my mistake, I hadn't noticed the radio ones had gone FTA. Not much of a
listener:)
Now I'm worried/curious.
My point with the station info for the various ABC tv broadcasts not being
displayed remains? Or is my and others stupid decoders playing up? |

I hope you have done a refresh for all the stations on your receiver.
There have been many changes over the last couple of months, possibly the
source of your dramas |

I have just done it, deleted networks and then rescanned and sheesh you're
not kidding about the changes. |

I haven't rescanned for a couple of weeks now, but the last couple of times
I did it, the ABC TV stations were not identifying which region they were
from.....it's fairly easy to work out which one is which after a while, but
somewhat irritating. It's happening on everybody's decoders, so it'll be the
ABC boffins just trying to annoy us.
