Actually, all satellite discussion has been moved to
http://www.starbandusers.com
Buy a StarBand 480 series modem, plug it in, turn it on, it works. No
software drivers to install, nothing to phuck up your computer, nothing to
discuss.

I don't know for sure but I think it was because people were
running sites off of it and they could not close port 80 to shut
them down or control the use of bandwidth off of it

yep..thats exactly the reason..
they needed a software controlled modem so they could put the screws
to their customers more efficiently.
Starband should have been called Scamband. Originally advertised at
'up to' 500 down and 'up to' 150 up.. however, I never got more than
20kbps up.. which I would never consider anything close to 'broadband'.
Sure the speeds have increased to their remaining customers the past year
or so... Hell, why wouldnt it, losing 10000 customers SHOULD help, eh.
Starband is good only if you absolutely HAVE to have it..or you got money to
burn.
I dumped it, went back to dialup..and had much better success..and much less
hair-loss.
You can do more with dialup than starband...
