Just to let you know that I've launched a brand new website -
www.walk-with-gps.co.uk The idea is that people send in route files
from their GPS receiver of walks they know of, then I'll make them
available on the site for other people to download. When you've done a
walk, e-mail me back and I'll put your comments on the site too!
Ps. It doesn't just have to be from the UK - the more the merrier!

What format are your files in? They don't seem to be in a format I can use
as a Memory Map overlay?

They are GPX files (see http://www.topografix.com/gpx.asp for more
details). I will look into making the files available in different
formats if people will find it helpful.

Not owning Memory Map myself, I've just had a quick look on their
website. This is a quote from their forum: "FYI: The import and export
of GPX and LOC files is currently being worked and will be added to a
future update. This may be an update in the near future or may not be
included until the next major release. This will depend on whether
Ordnance Survey feels the changes fall within the license agreement
restrictions."
(http://www.memory-map.co.uk/board/index.php?showtopic=1079 6th
December 2004).

If you could tell me what formats Memory Map supports, maybe we can
find another file type that will work. Failing that, unless anyone
knows how to convert from GPX to Memory Map (or is prepared to do it
manually!), it looks like you might have to wait until they release the
update.

I have added a file to http://www.walk-with-gps.co.uk/aaaa_details.html
which might work with Memory Map. Please try it and let me know if it
works.

That does import correctly yes. It appears as a series of marks rather than
a track, is that correct?

Probably. I don't have any mapping software, but that sounds right. The
file is just a series of waypoints. I have no idea of the capabilities
of Memory Map, but using a program like EasyGPS (link on the site) you
can upload the file to your GPS receiver, select the route and follow
it. There should be sufficient waypoints that you can follow it without
difficulty.

I have now added Memory Map files (.mxf) for all the walks. I have also
put all the files in zip files. If anyone needs a different format,
please ask - I can't guarantee I'll be able to provide it, but I will
try!
