fta help, please |
|

I am brand new to this hobby but I really want to get involved.
I have a ton of questions. It seems Ku band and a receiver that can handle
DVB signals is the way to go. Do any of these receivers handle DVB plus
analog. I thought I saw some that did DVB, NTSC, and PAL but that seemed to
good to be true. I think the name of the reciever was the Satwork ST 3688.
Also, what is a blind search? Can I only point my dish at one satellite?
What if I want to review channels on different satellites? Will I have to
manually move my dish? How does that all work?
I live in Pittsburgh PA. I have seen a couple of websites that say I will
have access to lots of different satellites. Is that really true. If it is
it would seem I could get tons of channels from all kinds of places. Even
Europe and foreign stuff.
Also, will Ku, FTA stuff pick up wildfeeds and sports backhuals?
How much will all this cost I saw one place that was advertising a whole Ku
FTA system for about 179 US. Could that really be right? Is that decent?
It doesn't have to be the best. I just want
to receive as many channels/feeds as possible and be able to see and hear
them. I really just want to explore what's up there.
One other question. Is it possible to receiver Dish or DirectTV using the
same dish and receiver? Legally? I only want to do things that are legal.
I don't wish to steal any signals?
I know I asked a lot of questions but if anyone would be willing to
answer/correct/add anything I would really appreicate it.

The Satcruiser (model escapes me) does analog and DVB. I wouldn't
suggest it though.

Blind search finds DVB carriers with no parameters enabling you to
find feeds the old timers consider classified.
You can move your dish manually, or get a diseq motor to make it easy.

Look here:

You should get all of these.

Some of these.
You can figure out which ones with:

I recommend a Pansat 2500a, diseq motor and a 1.0 meter dish.
You should be able to do it for $250 or so.
You can throw in a knob tuned analog for $50 or so. I would.

You can get Nasa and GolTV from dishnetwork for free along with a
bunch of music and some other stuff. You will need to get a DSS lnb
for your dish, or a dedicated 18" dish.

You sure. :)

DSR-201P. I have it. First receiver I got. I now only use it for
DVB since I have a 4DTV DSR-922. |

I do want one, but for this guy without a big dish, the other way
seems better. Does it blind scan, or only find SR? |

It can scan PIDs and find TV channels and audio channels on a
frequency automatically, but I'm not sure about scanning for SR. I
haven't tried it and not sure if it can or how long it might take if
it can. I just enter the frequency and SR then scan for the PIDs. |

Yeah, like my 101. It is cool that has a 36v positioner. I should look
for one on ebay. I'll trade you a Fortec ULTRA for it. :) |

Not what is referred to as "Blind Search". Would need to find
everything on its own. Freq., SR, FEC, PIDs.

How about a Wegener receiver capable of receiving 4:2:0, 4:2:2, QPSK,
8PSK, and Fox, WB, etc. feeds? O:-) |
