Tomtom Help |
|
|
Hi All,
I've just bought a Tomtom reciver but as yet have not installed it with the
Ipaq as Its arriving tommorow DOH!!
I have powered the reciver in the car and the little green light flashes.
Is this becuase its not recieved a decent signal or because its not
connected to the Ipaq??
I'm guessing that the green light will go solid when it has a decent signal
and is connected to the Ipaq qith the software installed.
have I got this right?
Any help appriciated
Cheers

Aren't there any instructions with it? If so, have you *read* them?

Hi Both |
Thanks for your constructive help.
There are no instructions to read but I would have read them if they were
present.
After searching the web and tomtom themselves I could not find anything so I
used my small level of intelligence and thought I'd post here.
I'm a first time poster and I hope you two are not a representation of the
help from this forum

That's normal, the green light will flash when on battery, steady on 12v
power. The blue light will flash when connected/bonded to a device.

The greed light on my TomTom supplied wired mouse always flashes green
when connected to power - it does nothing else - even when connected to
the PDA and running the navigation software.
A bluetooth connected GPS receiver may do something else.

Ah sorry, I wrongly assumed Bluetooth when it is most likely not! In that
case, the Green Light alwyas flashes to indicate power, there is no
indication of satellite lock on the unit itself.

Don't panic! I've just set up a Tom Tom rx with an ipaq 2210. My |
first PDA as well as being unfamiliar with Tom Tom. The receiver
flashes green all the time to show power on I think (though I'd need to
check!) Mine has certainly been flashing every time I've noticed. Once
you get the ipaq and set everything up, you'll get something very like a
normal gps "satellites" screen. Most of the minor probs I had setting
up were due to my complete unfamiliarity with PDAs rather than
difficulty with Tom Tom. BTW when it says it may take 45 mins to acquire
satellites the first time it ain't joking.
Cheers

I'm sorry if there are genuinely no instructions, and if I misread your
situation. All too often, people post questions which they could answer for
themselves with a little bit of effort.
I've just bought a TomTom GO, and that came with a very comprehensive
handbook.
If you buy a TomTom GPS plus software to run on a PDA, I would expect that
to come with a handbook too - 'cos the PDA manufacturer ain't going to tell
you about a third party add-on!

In my case the TomTom software came with a manual but there was only one
sheet of paper related to the GPS receiver. This was somewhat ambiguous
because most of it related to a Bluetooth GPS unit without making a
distinction between this and the wired device that was shipped. The only
other instructions for the GPS receiver was the idiots guide picture
showing how it plugged into a mount ;)
