I just upgraded from a Garmin III+ to the Garmin 60cs. I had used my
III+ for motorcycle touring and it worked out just fine. I could
usually find my way around ok with just the base map. The road detail
was pretty good, no matter what state I was in.

Today I received my 60cs. I bought it because I wanted to do some
bushwacking and some geocaching, BUT I'm a little disappointed at
the lack of road map detail. Nothing even close to what was on my
III+.

If I wanted to take a cross country road trip, and not have to rely on
Interstate travel, how could I make the 60cs comparable to the III+?
Will I have to bring along a laptop, just to load maps in as I go?

Also in the map screen I am showing quite a few multi colored dots
with.....

FL G 4S
Q R
FL G 2.5S
FL R 6s

etc, etc, I can find no mention of these in the manual. What are they?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA

The dots are marine nav lights. i.e. FG 2.5 means
flashing Green light of 2.5 second duration.
