Upgrading SPIII to 2610 |
|
|
Thinking of taking a plunge and getting a 2610. With the $100 rebate, and
current ebay value of the SP3 it's cheaper than buying new software! I have
some questions for those of you that have done a similar upgrade. Is the
2610 faster? As in starting up finding your location, and in recalculating?
The sp3 sometimes takes longer than what the new directions were, i.e. by
the time it figures out you missed an exit, recalculates, you've missed it's
re-calculated directions. What's your average re-calc time, 5sec, 10sec,
etc? How big of a CF card can it handle, and what is need to get most/all
the US onto a card? It is WASS enabled now right?
Thanks

Absolutely. Close to comaparing night and day.
As in starting up finding your location, and in recalculating?
Probably no significant difference in locking onto the sats. but
recalulating most definately.

Usually by the time it's done telling you it's recalculating it's
already done.

I don't know of a size limit.

Addressing is on the CF card so there is no limit on CF devices |

I forgot to ask, I assume my SP3 accessories will work on the 2610? Like the
AC adaptor, or does the 2610 come with one, the beanbag mount, ext. antenna?

That is different. You **may** be able to use an adapter though.

Thanks!
So in short, it re-calc's faster, has cheaper CF storage, comes with AC &
Beanbag that were extra on the SP3, the only thing I'd have to change might
be the ext. antenna. Cool, now if I can just fine one in stock!

The 2610 uses the MCX antenna connection, not the BNC connection like
the SP3. You can, however, get a BNC to MCX connecter that may allow
you to use your antenna.
I just purchased a SP 2610 from Darrell at TVNAV. It comes with the AC
power adaptor and the beanbag mount. I really like the 2610. Previously
I had been using a GPSMap 60CS for auto navigation. It did the job just
fine, until I saw my friend's 2620 that I advised him to buy. After
seeing how the new StreetPilots perform, I had to have one. I'm sure
that you will like the 2610.
