ABC blocks Aurora |
|
|
Since April 18th the ABC have been blocking TV channels for Northern
Territory subscribers of Aurora. This is due to the Murdock/Falconio/Lees
judicial case. I was told today by 'ABC reception difficulties' : " that
when the contentious issues are over all the channels will be restored -
there is nothing wrong with your decoder "!!
The funny thing was Optus didn't know it was happening till I rang them,
they investigated it and said it was the ABC's doing for political reasons.
Cheers

There are a couple ofitems of evidence that the judge has decreed should not
be available to people in the Notrthern Territory as it could prejudice a
fair trial. The judgewas very careful to tell all networks that they had to
make sure that if their service could reach the NT it could not contain any
of the evidence that was suppressed. This has meant the media outlets with
websites have had to report the abridged version of the evidence.
I flew from darwin to Sydney on one of days the first hearing was on they
they happily showed the full story on the airlines in flight news program.
When I got home to darwin the Channel 7 news had large chunks "missing".
They literally went to a blank screen or a message slide while the Falconio
stuff was on air.
From this I think we can assume that the reason fr the deletion is not
"political" but judicial. I also think that ABC would only be able to stop
their own broadcasts, not other organisations.

They only had a block on the "central 7 " transmission. Normal Channel 7
broadcast was complete, and the same can be said for the ABC transmission,
They only blocked the channel that people in Darwin had legal access too. If
however you had open access, it was simply a matter of selecting a
differant ABC channel.
