Storm - Dead satellite. Likely culpret? |
|
|
Had a storm the other day. After it was over I turned on the TV and satellite
reciever and nothing, just static - no sound (except static) , no picture -
it looks just like what you get when you're in between satellites.
The reciever does still move the dish and everything else about it seems to be
working (analog reciever only).
I don't have any spare parts to diagnose with, so any way to diagnose what's
broken -- cable, LNB, reciever?
Also, my dish does not appear to be grounded. Is it best to 1) drive a copper
ground stake into the ground and connect to the dish pole or 2) to run a wire
back to the electrical box ground. The dish is some distance from the house. |

Your first place to look would be the LNB

LNB is most likely, have someone change channels while standing near the
dish and listen for the servo to turn. It's unlikely the servo went out or
you'd at least get odd or even channels on a sat, just not both.
As for grounding, 8' rod in ground run to a bold on the dish, also run your
coax through a grounding block, which could tie to same pole.
Look at here to see LNB's, and grounding blocks:
