There is an internal newsgroup available only to starband users.
Here are some of the Posts from the group. Most are like this. Starband is
in danger of not being able to provide service at the sales pitch rate of
500kbs.

Yah, SB needs to put some kind of usage policy in place.
The bittorent crowd is choking off the transponders and pissing off the rest
of SB's customers.

we know.

Starband doesnt care whether they can or cannot deliver
what they advertised, that was obvious since day one
when they were promoting Starband as 500kbps down
and 150kbps up... then later changed their advertising to
read 'up to 50kbps up'.. a pure and simple case of fraud,
false advertising, and/or bait and switch technique.

Starband is the worst ISP on the planet..especially when
it comes to customer service. Their plan since customers
started dropping like flies was to round em all up and
start crammin em all on fewer and fewer clusters/sats.
They are still doing that today..

Starband doesnt give a shit. Simple as that. Their service
is junk, overpriced, falsely advertised junk.

Oh yeah, and they lie more than the Clintons do..never
believe a word they tell you. EVER.

gee, a FAP policy for Starband... wow, you trying
to kill off whats left of their customer base in one big
swipe of the pen, eh?

I would NEVER use an ISP that put limits on usage.
If they cant provide what they advertised from the start
they should go out of business and let the door open
for someone who can.

Dialup is better than starband anyhow.. and much much
cheaper.

"I just got off the phone with Andrew (a tech supervisor) at starband. after
1 hour of hold time I got to speak to a tech. rep. to find out that the
speed of the service is slow for as least another week due to something
about migration.. then I proceeded to ask about the newsgroup speed? and
basic got told that all the speed the newsgroups are going to get. i'm
averaging a whole 1.6kps.and it takes about 10 minutes to download 1000
messages headers only, no content just header...fun huh?. wow!! I was told
they are permanently Throttling the newsgroups.

so to all the news-groupies from starband everyone is screwed..

the migration is going to end up be the customer to another service
unfortunately.

starband used to offer good service for a fair price. now they want the
customers money for little, slow or no service.

checks in the mail, right!!

anyone know of another sat. service who doesn't Throttle and ruin the
"unlimited Internet service" they are suppose to provide?????

thanks"

Starband is nothing but excuses and lies.

Id check to see if there were any wireless options in
my area.. if not, Id go back to dialup. Hell Starband
isnt much faster than dialup anyways.. and its far less
reliable.

I just think that potential starband users know what they are getting into.
Small claims court may not do the trick, but a class action suite might. I
think a 2/3rds refund on the past 7 months of service plus half refund on
equipment would be good as well. They have broken a trust to provide service
that they can't deliver. Leaving customers with expencive equipment with no
resale market. Wholey due to a breach of faith. Should they have explained
that the service would be degraded (That they did) but give a resonable time
for repair NOT 7 MONTHS. They have not responded truthfully to direct
questions. I actually thing the FCC should get involved.
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html as well as the BBB

Here is the bbb report on starband.

I'm still getting around 480-560 kbps down and around 50-55 kbps up on my
360 system here. I've been a customer for almost 4 years now. I'd switch
if there were a better option available, especially for faster upload
speeds, but I'm not sure I trust direcway to deliver better service than
starband and they're the only other outfit that is up and running for less
than $200/month.

I'm still getting around 480-560 kbps down and around 50-55 kbps up
on my 360 system here. I've been a customer for almost 4 years now.
I'd switch if there were a better option available, especially for
faster upload speeds, but I'm not sure I trust direcway to deliver
better service than starband and they're the only other outfit that
is up and running for less than $200/month.

I got my letter from a Wild Blue dealer few days ago. They are going live
June 1. There are several plans, the cheapest being 49.95 for up to 500 kps
download. Equipment is 299.00, and installation apparently varies, but this
dealer quoted 175.00. They are new, so who knows?
