Newbie - Dish for a Community |
|
|
I'm not sure if I'm in the right place, I'm posting in diff. places.
I'm representing a private community (Condos) in Hamden, CT. We have 17 condos. The association want to install a Common dish for everyone. I'm wondering what's the best option? or where's the best place to start?

They can't keep you from having your own dish. See URL.

on anything, you need to install a common set of receive dishes for both
DISH and DIRECTV and then install a drop for each in each condo. That way
there won't be any complaints that the people can't get the channels they
happen to want.
There are commercial multiswitches that will give you 8 outputs with a feed
thru for an additional switch for 8 more outputs and so on.
So you select a central location where the dishes will be hidden from view
and can receive all the various satellites and then simply install the
required number of multiswitches. My guesss is that each condo will need at
least two drops at two different points in each unit so you run a line from
each set of dishes to the attic of each unit and install two four way
switches in each attic so each unit will have enough outputs.
Everybody is happy as they can choose either company or both companies.

Of course they can if you don't own the roof or walls of the condos and
thats the case in most condos.
So that ruling doesn't apply.

That is irrelevant to the original post. He said the Association WANTS a
common dish so they can hide it (or them) from view. You could run
single drops outlets in each condo and use a patch panel at your head end.
Then each tenant tells you what they want Direct to Dish and you patch it to
them. It might avoid some pain in the ass calls later on when they are
plugging their DishNetwork in to a Direct TV cable.

I've only lived in an apartment a few times and I've always made sure I got
one where the balcony/patio faces south. Put it on a stand, run the wire
under a window with a special flat adapter skyvision has and up and running
without modifying the apartment whatsoever.

ok, but that would be a pain to keep up with considering DirecTV and Dish are
using so many different birds now and in the future.
