PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A 53-year-old Vietnam veteran from western
Pennsylvania has been called up for active service with the U.S. military in
the Iraq war, The Tribune Review of Greensburg, Pennsylvania reported on
Wednesday.
Paul Dunlap, a sergeant in the Army National Guard, will join an armored
division next month as a telecommunications specialist in Kuwait, and
expects to be there for at least a year, the newspaper reported.

Dunlap, who has not been in combat since serving as a 19-year-old Marine in
Vietnam, could not be reached for comment. He will leave behind his wife
Mary, four children and three grandchildren.

"I don't think any of them want me to go," Dunlap told the paper. "I'm
thinking it's a long time since I've been in war."

Dunlap, from the town of Pleasant Unity, near Greensburg, Pennsylvania, said
he received a call from his sergeant major and was told to report for a
soldier readiness program, the newspaper said.

Dunlap's wife was quoted as saying the entire family "prayed that he
wouldn't pass his physical."

"It's very, very scary," she said. "He's been a soldier since I met him, but
there's a part of me that wonders at 53: Is he going to be up to doing what
he needs to do over there?"

Critics of the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq have argued that the current
level of U.S. troops there is too low to control an insurgency that has
destabilized the country since the ouster of former Iraqi President Saddam
Hussein.

The dependence of full-time troops on national guard members such as Dunlap
shows the military is stretched too thin in Iraq and elsewhere, critics say.

I bet youre still upset about your dishonorable discharge
arent you sammy.. is that the reason for all your hatred of
our military?

You wouldnt know bravery if it slapped you in the face.

Your seemingly joy at any of our militarys shortcomings
no matter how small, is hideous. People like yourself who
claim to be patritotic but yet go out of your way to show
your own military's sons and daughters mistakes with joy
and glee is a true show of your character. scum.

As far as the message source reading guy, nothing he posts
has any weight to me, hes probably 15 years old with pimples
on his face. This is probably all some civil science class project
for his high school. I ignore 90% if his messages totally, due
to the fact I have trouble decyphering his 7th grade attempt at
humor. The other 10% are messages that he copies and pastes
which shows he has no brain of his own.

If this is the way you support your troops sammy, Im sure
theyd probably NOT want yours..

now go on and tell me how hard you had it (yea sure) in
vietnam peeling potatoes stateside.. dont forget to embelish
your pathetic military service as much as possible.

Its people like you who lost the election for Kerry.. people EXACTLY
like you are the ones who the majority of us sees as hipocrit-maximus.
Claiming to be all patriotic, but then stooping to the bottomless-democratic
pit of insults to your own military. (Go ahead, and say 'oh its not our boys
its their leaders).. pfft. Give me a freakin break, sammy.. Grow some
balls. Apparently the military didnt teach you much about character or
standing up for your own.. because you are a disgrace to our veteran
community.
Thank God youre in the minority. (now insert your comment about how God is
fiction here).. surely you werent a marine were you.. The best thing
about your
military service sam, is that it is OVER.

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - A 53-year-old Vietnam veteran from western
Pennsylvania has been called up for active service with the U.S.

military in

the Iraq war, The Tribune Review of Greensburg, Pennsylvania reported

on

Wednesday.
Paul Dunlap, a sergeant in the Army National Guard, will join an

armored

division next month as a telecommunications specialist in Kuwait, and
expects to be there for at least a year, the newspaper reported.

Dunlap, who has not been in combat since serving as a 19-year-old

Marine

in

Vietnam, could not be reached for comment. He will leave behind his

wife

Mary, four children and three grandchildren.

"I don't think any of them want me to go," Dunlap told the paper.
"I'm
thinking it's a long time since I've been in war."

Dunlap, from the town of Pleasant Unity, near Greensburg,
Pennsylvania,

said

he received a call from his sergeant major and was told to report for
a
soldier readiness program, the newspaper said.

Dunlap's wife was quoted as saying the entire family "prayed that he
wouldn't pass his physical."

"It's very, very scary," she said. "He's been a soldier since I met

him,

but

there's a part of me that wonders at 53: Is he going to be up to
doing

what

he needs to do over there?"

Critics of the U.S.-led occupation of Iraq have argued that the
current
level of U.S. troops there is too low to control an insurgency that
has
destabilized the country since the ouster of former Iraqi President

Saddam

Hussein.

The dependence of full-time troops on national guard members such as

Dunlap

shows the military is stretched too thin in Iraq and elsewhere,
critics

say.
