I am unable to access news.startband.net "starband general" newsgroup. Has
anyone been able to, and if so, how? It goes through Outlook Express, but is
unable to download any messages. This is the same for all other newsgroups I
have subscribed to.

I can access www.starband.net, but not the newgroups.

Any advice? Thanks.

Hi Shirley

You need to be on Starband's network, via
the satellite, to read the Starband.General
newsgroup.

As to the other newsgroups you've been
reading in OE: you're reading them from
the Starband news server, but cannot connect
to that server while you're off the satellite.
However, for those newsgroups, you can read
them on Google groups.

May we all be re-connected ASAP. I miss my
Starband.

Stan

They don't want us talking while our systems are down :)

I asked if they would even allow us to take part in Robinb's chat on
11/30, and they said no - not until all the starband systems are up.
They could easily modify their firewall, but they chose not to.

At last I'm up and running and able to access Starband and the newsgroups.
I did spend a hour on the phone with a Starband tech and after we tried
everything, I still had a black icon. He then suggested for me to have the
distributor get me another usb cable to the Starband modem, and because the
weekend is upon us, I would have had to wait until Monday.

But lo and behold, after I hung up the phone and was resigned to connecting
with dialup, suddenly, miraculously, I think, the icon turned green and
everything's back to normal.

What a nightmare, not only for the subscribers, but I must say that the
techs I've spoken to have been extremely patient, kind and helpful. I've
been with Starband for 3 years and have never had a complaint about the
service.

If anyone is listening from Starband, many, many thanks.
